new contract  starts on March 1st so you gain the renewal vacation on that date.   Can't take it during the previous contract because you haven't accrued it yet.  makes sense to me.

I've always wondered about that death of a parent vs death of a child thing. I was astonished to read that if your child dies you only get 3 days off?? I am sure that the death of a child would be hugely traumatizing and something that you would need at least a week of for if not more. (And I am thinking that a week still wouldn't be enough.)  Is there a cultural reasoning behind this that I am somehow missing? Or is it just GEPIK being stingy?

Sounds to me like you are not diligent macchiato. You should be more diligent.

Cons

If you re-sign with your school you now only get 10 days (down from 14)

You cannot carry these days over (before they gave you within 6 months to use them..now you cannot. Which sucks for me because my contract started in April so if I end in April 2014 I cannot use those days because they are mid semester..so I would lose them according to the new contract

I'm a bit confused by this, could someone post the exact wording, please?

I don't understand when you're supposed to use your renewal leave - if you no long have 6 months to use it?

My contract ends in June, so if I renew, I would have to take my renewal leave immediately - i.e. during the semester? Surely this doesn't make sense for anyone - almost everyone's contracts will start/end during the semester rather during than vacation time.

Actually, I found it:

In the case of Renewal, pursuant to the foregoing Clause 1, the Employee shall be given a 10-day paid Renewal Leave (weekends and holidays inclusive; must be used consecutively) which shall take place during school vacations in the new Term of Employment with the condition that the days do not conflict with the school schedule.

So I guess nothing has really changed - you can use your renewal leave whenever you like, providing it's not during the semester?

This is the new contract for the 2013-2014 year. I had to fight a bit with my CT about the vacation days but he caved and finally said that the contract was right...I get the 14 days off. As far as the severance pay...I was depending on it to resupply but I will just have to wait. At least at the end of this contract (not renewing) I will get it x 2.

The renewal leave is paid, correct? it seems to say that in the 2012 contract but it's much more clear in the 2013. That's in the English version anyway.

I also noticed that they give two days leave for the death of a grandparent on the new one. Travel days not inclusive. Two days for the death of a grandparent and three for a child? Agreed, this part of the contract is weird.

Not sure why they cut the bonus days. Just keep them during the school break and most schools will save money. Those 5 days I am losing from renewal would save my school money. I'm not going to be going into my room and sucking up power from my internet surfing, A/C and lights.

Inclusive... =( So that means, for example, if I start my vacation on Monday, June 3rd, then it must end on Wednesday, June 12th? Not Friday, June 14th? (IF this is not during the semester, of course. This is just an example.)

Start your holiday on a Wednesday. That way you get 12 days off.

I expect the contracts will keep getting worse and worse, which is why you all should escape while you can and keep what little dignity you have left  :afro:

+10
Which is why I'm taking the GRE next month. Gotta get out while the getting is good!!!!

Yes, that's correct.

Confucianism. Korean funerals for parents take longer, because you have to get all the extended family in one place for the memorial services. Child funerals are smaller affairs that take less planning.
