another NET at my school
« on: February 17, 2011, 10:40:31 pm »
I've been working at my school (SMOE) for 6 months now and i just got the news that my school is getting another NET this year in March. I wasn't aware that schools can have more than one NET. Do any of you or know of anyone that works for SMOE with another NET?

I guess its not a big deal except that it sort of makes me feel inadequate... It makes me question my work at the school. am i not doing my job well enough?

This has nothing to do with your performance, a whole mess of schools are getting a second NET (my school included) because some regions like Daegu for example are increasing the number of foreign teachers.

My School was on this system till now and it was great to have another NSET. SMOE chooses some schools to be like a 'specialist centre' for 1 or 2 years and then allocate 2 NSET's. It wonderful to have 2 English teachers, the only problem is then you host District English Camps, which are always 2 weeks long, and many district competitions and you will also find that the supervisors from the District Office will be there more often. There is a good chance you will have many open classes too.

It has nothing to do with your proficiency, so don't worry about that, in fact it may be great for your resume to say you taught at a school that was especially selected for this task.

Enjoy having another NSET with you. The other NSET at my school has just left and I am really going to miss having my buddy with me.
