"Interesting" Position Requirements
« on: December 31, 2012, 08:00:26 am »
As I'm sure at least some of you know, hiring season is kicking in to full gear. I've always heard of examples of strange requirements some schools have for potential teachers, but I ran into my first one today:

Job #21241 : non-smoking, right handwriting teachers(4) (2013.02.11)
teaching group : Kindergarten(2teachers), Elementary(2teachers)
hours : 9AM to 6.30PM for Kindergarten 1.15PM to 9.15 for Elementary and middle
salary : more than 2.2 mil

.....sounds like I'm a shoe-in!  ;D

Anyone else have any examples, past or present?

It always amuses me what employers demand. They seem to flatter themselves as to how difficult their jobs actually are. I guess they are terrified if we find out how easy their jobs are we would begrudge them their bumper salaries

The first position I had in Korea, I was asked if I smoked. I said no. Apparently the NT before me did and no one else at the school smoked they thought it was a bad example for the students. I was hired and the next semester we had a new teacher come. A male and he would most definitely go into the bathroom to smoke between classes. Coincidentally my classroom was next door to the bathroom.

My Korean girlfriend's sister asked me if I knew of any foreigners looking for a job starting in February at her school. I said I knew some people and she told me that her school only wants slim blonde American or Canadian girls  younger than 30 (I'm guessing that won't all go in the job posting...). Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who meets all of these requirements, but it is nice to see someone is finally looking out for young skinny blonde women!

Heh, never seen an ad discriminating against southpaws before. Maybe the board markers are for right-handed people only?
It's nice to be important but more important to be nice.
