Looking for great coastal spot in Northern Western USA or Western Canada

I’m seeking some advice from people who have seen the North Western USA or West Coast of Canada.  I’m looking for a place/area to stay for a month in July 2014.  Here are my requirements.

•   Overlooking the North Pacific Ocean.
•   Lots of forest (not overdeveloped)
•   Quiet and peaceful location.
•   Probably Washington State or British Columbia.

I will be looking to rent a small cottage/cabin or similar.

A friend has mentioned Orcas Island.  Are there any other areas people would recommend?

There are some lovely places in the Arcata/Trinidad/Crescent City area.

If you don't mind going down to Oregon there is a nice town that has forest, sand dunes and is right next to the ocean. The towns name is Florence Oregon.

Washington native here - If you're looking for the coast coast, the best place to stay, in my opinion, would be on the Makah reservation: www.makah.com. I've spent a few days in a cabin there and it was one of the best places I've visited. Orcas Island is nice too, but you won't see the waves.... it'll just be really calm and flat.

Another suggestion for Oregon, it is a little less developed and considered one of the prettiesy stretches of highway 1. I suggest the northern part from Lincoln City up to Astoria. Cannon Beach, Short Sands aka Oswald West State Park, Pacific City (great beer) and Ecola State Park.  Man I miss it!!!!!!

Tofino, British Columbia.

I would recommend the Tofino/Ucluelet area on the west coast of Vancouver Island...Clayoquot Sound, Flores Island etc.  are beautiful.  Hot springs cove, kayaking, etc.

The Discovery Group/Desolation Sound area is also amazing.

Cape Scott on the north coast of the island is also nice.

Pacific Rim National Park, Juan de Fuca and West Coast Trails, Sooke, Port Renfrew, etc.

I worked in Tahsis for a summer a few years ago and it was amazing. In the summer there is around 600 people with loads of bears, seals, eagles and even whales to see from the shore. Its located on Vancouver Island. THough I would agree with someone who posted from above that Tofino or maybe even Ukluett would be agreat place to spend a month. I spent time in both and personally liked Ukluett better, though because I was able to camp on the beach and make fires with no complaints. THis was a few years ago so things may have changed.

My granparents like staying at this place in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island.

They rent out a condo for a month. They say the best part is the view and waking up to the ocean every day.

I would also highly suggest Gibsons or Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast. To get there you would have to take a ferry from Vancouver. Rugged, remote, stunning ocean views and absolutely gorgeous. I worked there for a summer and would highly suggest it.

During rainy days, the town of Sechelt has great indoor pool/gym with a lazy river, huge pool, kids pool and water slide.

Also as a Washington State resident, I agree with this. Ignore Oregon. Actually, Oregon has a lot of beauty, but if you really want to see "green" you should go out to the peninsula in Washington State. Tons of great places to go. I also recommend places like Forks, as they are so green, it hurts your eyes and makes your heart weep.

Anywhere on Vancouver Island is good. The Tofino area can be pretty secluded, but it's just drop dead gorgeous: old growth temperate rainforest, amazing coastline, surfing, whale watching, camping, kayaking, cabin rentals ...

And on the way, you can get a look at Victoria, which has a very European feel to it for a west coast city.
