That should be public information, anyway, since it is about public funding.
Quote from: lacyfan on August 02, 2011, 01:10:40 pmWhat's wrong with informing foreign teachers about which parts of Gyeonggi Province fund their own programs and which areas rely on the province for full funding? That should be public information, anyway, since it is about public funding.I think that the reason would be that it's slightly misleading. Just because some schools within a city are funded doesn't mean that they all will be. My school is City Hall funded...the one two minutes away had their funding revoked. I guess you are asking the wrong people too. Maybe there is a list!

I don't care if there's a list or not. It's kind of irrelevant isn't it? There's either a job available when you apply...or there isn't. Knowing which cities have some City Hall funding (the answer of course, is that every single City Hall in Gyeonggi-Do offers some level of funding for their English and other programs...just some more than others) and which schools are exclusively GPOE funded doesn't add anything to the old job hunting arsenal.
As for my co-ordinator...I'm sure that they have better things to do than have me call them from my Suwon City Hall funded school and ask them to provide me with lists that aren't relevant to me or my situation.
Why not make this information available to foreign teachers?
My city doesnt provide a lot of funding to schools (3 in my area are losing teachers). My coordinator told me this today. So if I were looking for a job (as in directly, without a recruiter) I would probably not look in my city. I would instead focus on cities where they do provide funding and contact someone there as I would be more likely to get hired. Also if I were planning to stay a year or two, your job would probably be a little more secure (at least as secure as ESL jobs can be).
That's lovely but this information isnt about you, it's about people who are looking work.
This GEPIK thread has gone on too loooong. Facts are this. Is GEPIK finished? No. Is it being scaled back? Probably, just as the other English programmes in Korea are likely to be. Why? Probably to do with budgetary matters. Does it suck? Yes. Will you be out of a job? Who knows? If so move on.
That's also lovely, but what I wrote wasn't directed to you, it was directed to lacyfan who suggested that I should contact MY coordinator to ask about a list

I posted that GEPIK should inform GEPIK teachers about which areas/schools have local funding for their foreign teachers so that teachers, and applicants, can know which schools are not affected by the current hiring freeze. That is a perfectly reasonable request.
OK. But, remember, teachers need information about local school funding because it matters when looking for jobs, and job security with GEPIK.

When you, or any other teacher, apply for a teaching position at a Gyeonggi public school ask the simple question, "How is the position funded?"I realize you want GEPIK to provide a list, but they're not going to do it. It doesn't matter why. It's not going to happen, and so teachers need to find alternative means for finding the information. (I consider that a part of due diligence.)
Unless you speak fluent Korean, good luck asking "who funds my position." ㅋㅋㅋ
It does matter why information is withheld from foreign teachers by an organization, GEPIK, that is supposed to be helping us.

They're here to put native English-speaking bums in Gyeonggi-do PS 'seats'. You're a foreigner and they could not 'care less' about you (unless it affects them).Sincerely,CM
Sorry, but I understand what is happening. I'm the one challenging GEPIK to do something to help the foreign teachers in their system. There's at least one other poster on this thread, and site, who is a "true believer" in the GEPIK leadership. Tell him about GEPIK.
