Need some help with after school moviemaking class
« on: September 03, 2012, 02:00:54 pm »
Hey,

For my after school conversation class I'm planning to do a 10 class moviemaking activity, where  I will teach students simple terms like genre and story structure, divide them into groups and then help each group make their short film. Anyway, my question is: could someone direct me to a short film(s) which easily illustrate the 3 act structure, i.e. Set-Up, Confist, and then Resolution, and also wouldn't be boring to a class full of girls

I didn't have the same task as you but I did have to make a movie with my students.

Here is the link to our video. Each group had to make a short skit. My students are really low level so some of their scripts are really simple but have a story line. I've added subtitles too, just have to press the CC button. Not sure if you still need this or maybe you could possibly use it in the future.

I am currently doing the exact same thing with my afterschool class.  After teaching basic story structure, I showed them "Pigeon: Impossible."

It's nice that it doesn't rely on dialog, so that even low level students can identify the story structure elements.
