Here is a reading game instead of the one in the book. It is the "what's behind the sentence?" game, but instead of only getting candy, students can add points (1 or 3) and even change points in the game.

Hello! 2 games 

The first one is Called Furniture Finder. I printed off names of furniture and laminated them. Then I split the class into 5 groups and assigned a room to each group.
1.In a basket I had all the laminated furniture names mixed together.
2.When I said go, one student from each group had to come up and find one furniture name for their room. Then they bring it back to their group and the next person goes up to find another one.
3.The game is over when all 5 pieces of furniture are found.
~I gave 3points for all five, 2points for four and 1point for three.~

The students got really excited screaming out furniture items to their team members! haha There is a quick review section before and pictures to give them a guide of what to look for.

Last one is a writing game. There are 3 levels. The first is guessing room names from pictures of furniture. Second is guessing furniture pieces. and last level is filling in the blanks "There is a ____ in the ____"

My class watched the subprime animation 3 times without getting sick of it over two classes. They also told me not to stop, haha.

Guessing game

There are clues for a specific room in the house. There are about 3 ~ 4 clues for the room that appear after each click. There are 7 rooms to identify. If you want the game to go longer make it a team effort where they write down their answer as a group. The earlier answers get more points.  I tried to make it a little tricky for them to figure out it actually made it really fun for them!

A PPT I made just showcasing the different children and their homes from James Mollison's book "Where Children Sleep".

This could be used for 6th period's Around the World segment.

I played this video (up until 2 minutes ) for my kids. The second time I played, I paused it each time the baboons went into a different room. They had to write down what room the baboon was in "This is the...." and then say what they could see in the room "There is a ... in the ...". The kids loved it. (I put aside my disbelief that National Geographic produced a series like this.)

I made a clap game for this unit. The instructions are in the powerpoint. I took the base from a different user and changed it to fit this unit. :)

Here's the material I used for lesson 9, which I made unless otherwise noted.

Day 1: First up is a fill in the blank ppt for the dialogue on page 126.
Next, to go along with the video posted above ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=IL2WHdRwlJ4  ) of the Simpsons' house is a quiz about the video (someone else made this a year or two ago).
Next is a ppt about rooms in the Simpsons house.
Then a Halloween game (what monster is in what room - note: I switched the units around (teaching 11, 10, then 9) so unit 9 came at Halloween).

Day 3: A pass the ball game (using Simpsons images),
a 'stuff in a house' game (what is it - it's a sofa/ where is it? It's in the living room)
Then a matching game in which an object must be matched with a room.
The last three lead up to the sticker game on page 131 ('Act and Play').

Day 6: Houses and housing ppt - compares houses in Korea to houses in Canada/U.S.
(ie. we don't tend to have drains in the floor, we always have enclosed showers or shower curtains on bathtubs)
Flying Sentences and unscramble the words writing game (done in groups of 4).
Pictionary (or charades) cards showing objects from a room - students have to make the sentence 'There's a ____ in the ___ room.'

I wrote this simple sweet song that students will enjoy, This Is My House. I like to read the lyrics first and make sure they know how to say the words,then I play the song so they can get a feel for it. Get them to complete the CLOZE. Once they get their confidence, they can sing it.

A fun way to ellicit target language from students is through an activity on the Busy Town website. Some of you may have watched the television program/played the computer game as children.

The website is a sort of abreviated version of the Busy Town world, with lots of games and activities. If you go to the "countryside" area in the game, you can build your own house. Pull it up on the projector and ask the students to help you place the appropriate objects in the correct rooms of the house.

Started this unit today. This PPT has the key words and sentences (plus a few extras that my co-t wanted to teach), and then instructions for the listening game we did. It went really well actually. I gave them each a basic house outline (picture attached), and had them stick the stickers from the top of page 225 in unusual places: a bed in the kitchen, and a stove in the living room, for example. Then it just worked like Bingo.

A presentation for the first period introducing the rooms of the house and household objects, I added a few extra rooms and objects. The last slide is to use with the listen and play 'game' (activity). I think I made the ppt look quite nice! :)

Lesson plan & vocab ppt for period 1. I used another ppt from this thread (thanks whoever you are - gave me a good start) and changed a little/added some. My KT wanted to add other words like dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, kettle, garage, etc. I took out the easy ones they should already know (dog, puppy, etc.). When it comes up, I always try to tell them the differences between American English and British English -- garden vs yard, garAGE vs GARage, etc.

We used this song for motivation: http://youtu.be/DR5qPNPGCmY (We Are Busy Beavers House Song) - I thought the students would hate it, but they didn't. Most sang along.

We just did the textbook activity for listen and play, changed a little -- class asked me "What's in the ___?" and I answered. Vocab ppt took so long, that we would have been short on time anyway.

M kids are pretty advandced, you can go easy with your kids.
You just let them name objecs rather than memorizing them

Memory Match
Used the word cards posted earlier, but added/changed them to match the vocab a little more (so that they included the animals and all the rooms).  Worked pretty well.

divide the cards into two sets- words and pictures
Students choose 1 picture card and 1 word card.
they then say "There's a (picture card) in the (word card)."
If the pictures match (if the sentence makes sense), then the student keeps the cards.
If the pictures don't match (if the sentence doesn't make sense), the student says "There's a (picture card) in the (word card).  What a surprise!"
The student puts the cards back.
It is then the next student's turn

Worked pretty well with mid-level 5-person groups.
