Havn't read the whole thread, so not sure if they feature, but Minzu's parents deserve a mention. I'm talking about the real actors, not the cartoons. His mom is especially annoying...
I also remember one scene where his dad tells him he is a good boy and then pats him on the back for a good 5 seconds!

Those videos are worse than I expected!  Why doesn't the speaking match the mouth movements?  How hard would it be to tape some new videos?  There's videos with my middle school text, and they're really corny, but at least the speaking matches the mouth movements... and they were filmed this century!

for those people asking to find out how the actors are doing now, in k-pop bands etc-this stuff was not filmed that long ago.  i am friends with "pedo" guy and he has only been in korea 3 years.  This stuff is super recent. by the way i showed him this thread and he thought it was hillarious.

Going back through the discs now as I take screen shots to make blog posts, it is scary how easy it is to read Anonymous White Man as a sex offender. Watch as he looms around the children, asking for their ages and their names, getting familiar. Watch as he appears in shops. Watch as he invades their homes in a Santa Suit and sneaks into their bedrooms.

Taken with the fact that all of the kids also have a frequent psychotic hallucinations of a mutant green rabbit named Zeeto, this text book is actually pretty dark.
Stupid Ugly Foreigner. Read it. Guaranteed to make you laugh, make you cry, and also cure your hysterical pregnancy.

The worst character by far is Peter - the animated version is so offensive - why can't he have regular lips like everybody else? What are those things on the back of his head? They played a little snippet of the CD featuring him and all the brown people immediately locked eyes. I would love an opportunity to talk to the creative director and animator and give them a piece of my mind.

Luckily the kids don't comment, but I know they are internalizing that crap. Koreans are not exactly a race of thin lipped people.

Next would be Nami - omg - did no one else show up for casting that day? Who did her hair? It puzzled me for like a month or so - I swore she had her bangs in dreads or something - how do you even do that? Who did the costumes? It would have been better to have the kids wear their own clothes? And the hats - what? Is that product placement - lame trucker hats?

thank you - I feel better.

This thread has made my afternoon

I have to say AANNNNNNNEEEEEEE!!!!!! Anne is the worst!  She just looks so frigid and dead all the time....She makes me feel depressed just by looking at her or like shooting her so she can stop messing up my day!

And Kevin who always looks like he thinks he's Mr I'm so cool and hot?!  at his age...can you imagine when he actually grows up...sigh  There is the grade 6 lesson 'How was your vacation?' where Nami (who is a ditz at best) is nicely asking him about his vacation, Mr hotshot just looks like he's wondering whether he should act like he doesn't know her or not and finally decides, after a long pause, that she was worthy of his a response for him  :'(  What a snotty nosed boy!

And Pedo guy - ahhh what's left to say....I rest my case.

I may be speaking too soon, but looking through the new 6th grade CD-ROM, I think Cindy the "Australian" may be a front-runner for this year's most hated. She just looks so put-upon every time she has to interact with anyone else.

BREAKING NEWS:

Kevin doesn't say "I love you all" in Lesson 16 So Long Everyone. That honor goes to Tan

Cindy is still as American as ever, I see.

Does this mean they kept the same crappy videos? Arg! What's the point of making a new version if you don't fix the problems?

Kelly is by far the worst. The way she pines for Insu, is just ridiculous. It's like take a hint- he's just not that into you.

Brian. He broke my pencil.  >:(
Don't let them drive you crazy, espcially if it's within walking distance!

I agree about Brian. He must be the worst person on Earth. I know this thread is old, but can I throw out Lucy's (from the 4th grade books) name for consideration? God, she's just the worst. I'm talking about the real actor, not the cartoon. The little girl who plays Lucy is TERRIBLE. (Sorry, little girl, I know it's mostly the fault of the person who did your voiceover work.)

Old thread, I know, but seriously, BRIAN IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST (Grade 6 ESE, Frances Sohn, 천재교육).

He snottily said "no way" when Tae Ho begged to know what he would do for the talent show. He writes shitty poems about his stupid dog Dingo. He's afraid of super lame roller coasters and demands to know why he should take off his hat (and doesn't even comfort Mina when she gets scared. Plus, he's going around breaking everyone's pencils and robots. Seriously, the worst.

Ah, I actually miss 천재. I've YBM now for 5th and 6th and while they make some awkward errors it's just not as fun to make fun of, although today one of my 6th grade boys said the animated videos were "creepy"...lolz.

Does anyone have a picture of the girl with the weird hair? Julie, was it? I read everything on this thread and it's hilarious! I didn't know 천제 was that bad since everyone kept saying 천제 is the best (this was last year, when they were still using the old books). This year's 천제 books are not terrible, in my opinion.

Summer,

Actually the newest 천재 written by Frances Sohn, isn't that bad, 99% of this thread is about the National Curriculum that was discontinued in 2010, and after that for one year there was transition book (not published by 천재) which in some ways was actually worse. So the other 1% is about that horrible transition book that was created to bridge the gap until 2011 when schools could choose their own books for 5th and 6th. I looked for a picture but at the moment I can't find one, if I do I'll post it; though I thought someone had somewhere in this thread.

The old curriculum was 천재 but the transition book was written (and I think published) by the Ministry of Education.

Ah, I see. I saw 천재 mentioned in the thread and I assumed that it was one of the old 천재 textbooks. Thanks
