1. tic tac toe. draw on the board a giant grid (maybe 10x10 or 12x12, more boxes the better) split the class into two groups. they choose a question like a bomb game, but then they put a mark on the board trying to get 6 in a row.
2. word search
3. sleeping elephants - working in groups of 4, they number themselves 1-4, everyone put they heads down, all the 1's look at the screen and remember a word or letter, same for 2's... then they work together to make a sentence or word.
4. magic gourd bomb game - answer a question then choose to give or keep
5. kws - 20 sey words and sentences from the unit, i use it for review at the beginning of every class, speaking they translate

Hurray for the 'Sleeping Elephants' game!  I'd never heard of it before and the kids absolutely had a blast! Thanks SO much.

Taking a ppt from another post earlier, I added onto it a bit more and created a "Running Man" Game.  It's mainly for practicing ordinal numbers, but a few directions questions are included as well.  This was my first game I created, so there may be a few glitches here and there.  Please message me if anything doesn't work, especially the music!

Enjoy! =)

CRAZY CARS! Here's a dice game that got some of my more unmotivated students practicing.  The directions are mostly explained on the game board.  Their token moves according to the dice.  There is some strategy in that the student or team must choose which car to move amongst three.

If it's not obvious from the board, each team's three cars start out pointing to the center and go from there.  When their team hits all of the prize squares, they win.  We didn't finish in seven minutes.  Give it at least 10 minutes in your lesson

I heard my students reading the directions out loud so I was happy with their English production.  This may require some of your own tweaking, if you aren't happy just hearing the basic directions.

You may notice that blue and red squares are hovering next to the start squares on the board.  These are meant to be in the "start" square-just drag them in.  The car tokens are in the second attachment.  Thanks.  Hope your kids like it.

Video for this lesson. I also used it in Lesson 1 for this book (How's it going?) but this time focused on the floor numbers and directions (originally written for a YBM 6th Grade that combined 'how's it going?' and building directions) I also have a video about street directions if you decide to get into that. Enjoy!

How's it going?

"How's it going?/Good.-Not bad.-Not good./Where's your-the ________?-classroom-English room-teacher's room/It's on the ______ floor.-4th-5th-9th-(7th, 3rd, 1st)/Go straight and turn left. It's on your right. You can't miss it."

Thank you p33k for the original PPT.

Day 1: I added more vocabulary words along with the Korean translation.
Day 2: Here are other maps that can be used for the activity for groups instead of just the one in the book.

Also included is a worksheet that my co shared with the students to practice and for homework.

Use Google Earth to see if it shows your school in street view. Have your students give directions to locations near the school (stores, churches, apartments, etc).

I have been having some trouble finding engaging activities for the writing sections, but this lesson plan seemed to go over well!

I've included my rough Lesson Plan, the Jumbled Sentences game PPT and sentence template.

Here is the link to the Code Breakers worksheet: http://worksheetgenius.com/design.php?worksheet=codebreaker

This is a map game originally made for the 6th Grade chapter 'Where's Anna's Doughnut Shop?'.

Directions to buildings are posted all around the classroom. Students work in pairs (or in my case groups of four, two students writing and two reading,) to read the directions and fill out the blank spaces on the map. I adapted it to this chapter by making multiple starting points (because students haven't studied 'blocks' yet. I also added multiple floors to the buildings).  My students really enjoyed playing this game.

Thank you to  the poster who originally created it.
