People are awesome film festival lesson plan
« on: June 04, 2012, 01:31:14 pm »
Okay, so I'm new here (just got to Korea on May 27), and I teach at a public elementary school in Suwon. One of my classes is a gifted class that I meet with twice a week for 100 minutes at a meeting.

For the first lesson that I had with this group of students (on my own), I decided I would do something fun for them to get them used to me etc. etc. etc. This is what I came up with.

The class has 20 students and there are a total of 7 computers in the room (including mine).

First thing I did was show this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo0Cazxj_yc

If you haven't seen one of these compilation videos before, your response is going to be similair to my kids... A bunch of ooooooooo's and ahhhhhhhh's (though theirs were undoubtedly more pronounced than yours were). This set the mood perfectly...

The assignment: get into groups of 3 and find a video that is of someone doing something amazing that is interesting to them (related to a hobby perhaps), but there are some rules...

1. Talking or music must be in english
2. All group members must introduce the video (saying why they chose it etc...)
3. Video length is no longer than 3 minutes (or only a 3 minute section)
4. Have fun!

The students couldn't wait to begin the search for their amazing video! (why wouldn't they be?)

After 15-20 minutes of searching everyone had their videos, so the festival begins... (there's a couple of links at the bottom)..

It was a raving success with the only issue being shy students on the stage when they were introducing their videos, but they were still excited about their video... I just had to ask them to speak up...

In the end, we voted on the best video, and lesson done!

Sry, I couldn't remember all of the videos these were the two that I could search for (class was on friday, and I'm writing this on monday)

let me know what you think

The first video is no longer available, could you try posting it again?

I don't know what specific video the OP posted, but there's a bunch of these compilation videos. You can just search "People Are Awesome" on youtube and choose whichever one you like.
