Yonsei Uni - Korean Language Course Spring 2012
« on: March 28, 2012, 03:00:54 pm »
I was wondering has anybody else signed up to do this?

I signed up and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm a beginner, I did a bit of self study last year but found it very difficult to keep myself motivated after a few weeks, even when I was learning things. I can read Hangeul and have a small vocab range.

Has anybody else done this course before? Maybe you could share your experience.

I did it at level 3-4 (evening class level 5-6).  It was one of the most helpful things I've done to improve my Korean, but the workload was fairly heavy and I had to do a lot of studying outside of class just to keep up.  Also, devoting essentially three whole evenings a week to it gets tiresome after a while.  The workload in the beginner classes probably won't be so bad since they don't try to cover a whole book in a semester.  If you're doing the daytime course, then ignore all of this...

Yonsei tends to be good for grammar and vocab and less good for speaking practice.  Still, I would highly recommend their courses to anyone who's serious about studying Korean.

I will be studying in the evening time. I guessed that the work load might be pretty hectic alright. I promised myself I would make a really big effort to learn Korean this year. I have been here for a year and was very disappointed that I didn't do more in my first year. But now I'm more settled here I think it's more realistic to learn more and keep motivated. I'm really looking forward to it, though I know it won't be easy.

I haven't taken the course, but their books are some of the best I've found. They're not easy, but you don't want them to be if you're really looking to improve.

The registration for Spring has passed. Next one will be on in Summer, registration deadline is June 14.

I'm doing the evening program because it suits my schedule. Here is a link to their site: http://www.yskli.com/prog_even.htm

It runs for 10 weeks. 6:30pm through 9pm, 3 days a week. It's not cheap, costs 810,000 altogether. Tuition fees and application fees included. I have heard very good things about the course, so I hope to get my monies worth out of it!!
