the thing that got me was the bullet proof clothing.
Yeah, John Wick 4 was great but there comes a point. I can suspend disbelief to a large degree, but there comes point.

"I am John Wick. I cannot be killed by 16 men because I cover my upper half with my suit jacket."

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, okay?

I haven't finished watching the 4th film, yet.

I mean I get it, he's supposed to be a badass, and none of the films are meant to be realistic, but they keep upping the antics, and now it just feels like a parody.

I liked the first and third films. Not a fan of the 2nd film, and the 4th film is really meh-ish for me so far. My opinion might change once I'm finished watching it, but I don't really see that happening.

Beau Is Afraid (2023)

This movie is what happens when you smoke crack before bed.

You could say that it's just an extreme form of allegorical storytelling, but as far as I'm concerned this film is just some guy's fever dream.

Might be great for people who like a lot of wtf moments with little to no explanation except for what you decide to insert for yourself, but it's definitely not for me.

I am actually quite shocked at the amount of low quality movies floating
around this year. I have a good mind to stop illegally downloading these
affronts to entertainment.

I am amped for this.

Also, super excited for Across the Spiderverse. I'm going to see Asteroid City, too but I'm not setting myself up for anything amazing. Isle of Dogs and the last one he made were good, but nothing mind-blowing.

I am a BIG fan of wes andersen. Cant wait for Asteroid city. The last one, French Dispatch was a little different from the rest, but was still an solid 8/10 from me.  Grand Budapest Hotel is the best to me. Followed closely by Life Aquatic, Moonrise Kingdom and the Royal Tennenbaums.  I felt bad for making my girlfriend come to the theater with me to see the French Dispatch. She'd never really seen a wes andersend film and didnt get it. French Dispatch played for 2 days in my city,  a wednesday and thursday. with only 3 shows each day.

Extraction 2 is better than the first film.

Jaw-dropping action scenes.

Seriously. (Watch the camera angles.)

I've been watching one called the Van's Gambit.  It's a Hulu joint.  It follows the life of a cabin boy on a crab boat who yearns to break free of his services in the barrel for the love-lorn male crew.  He finds his escape through chess.  Later, after he's forced by law to attend school and is able to attend a chess club he finds out he has no ability whatsoever and in fact was merely randomly moving his pieces around the board and then declaring himself "Champion du monde!" when he got sleepy.  Later, we have a time lapse to where he gets run out of the newspaper business for false reporting and takes refuge in a teaching position in rural Korea where few foreigners dare to venture.  He discovers that he can make up his past and recreates himself online as a former spelling bee runner-up and Chess Grandmaster.  He is able to continue this farce until he becomes so arrogant he challenges the foreign community to a game of chess.  When his challenge is taken up, his bluff is in danger of being called.  He panics and lights his jeep on fire in a bid to distract people from the chess challenge.  It backfires as he is spotted in that very jeep two days later on his way to buy cheese from the nearest mid-sized city.  Hilarity ensues.  It's apparently based on a true story.

I really do wish someone would make a dark comedy that basically is a vehicle for "real action". Maybe a team of young people raised on movies who try to do action movie crap and it basically all ends up with them in the hospital in critical condition.

We can have
1) The gunplay scene which has the minimally trained person, missing by firing wildly, shooting a friendly, and then fumbling with a jam before getting shot themselves (graphic injury). Maybe they can do something dumb like dive behind a sofa or car door. Or maybe they can have some dumb "bulletproof" jacket that shows the real effects of getting shot with body armor. And with a rifle round slicing through on top.
2) The fighting scene where some person takes on someone twice their size and just gets pummeled in about 5 seconds and ends up in the hospital with a concussion, broken ribs, broken jaw, lost teeth, shattered eye orbital, etc.
3) The infiltration scene which results in bodily injury through fall.
4) The high-speed chase which ends in sudden loss of control/collision and grisly injury. Maybe injure an innocent bystander.
5) The "interrogated by the cops" scene in which the heroes get tricked by the cops and find themselves in jail.
6) Captured by tribals/criminals who just execute some on the spot (no endless talk) and only one lives because he got lucky and the bullet only creased his skull.
7) Attacked by random livestock who isn't actually cute and cuddly but territorial when in heat.
8) U.S. military/SWAT called in, who promptly annihilate 80% of them in about 10 seconds and capture the rest.

I had high hopes for the this movie, but I thought it was so
bad I turned it off after about 45 minutes.

SPOILERS

I know it is Hollywood, but people don't suddenly overcome near
death trauma by chopping wood. Also, the fight scenes were so
over the top. Similar to John Wyck 4. In this case he would have
been at least a little bit tired after maybe the 15th or 16th person
he hacked to death. It's like they removed all the intelligent parts
of the Bourne films and substituted in mindless violence.

If I was ten or eleven I would have thought this movie was great,

I have finished watching "Covenant" and "Kandahar".

I would give "Covenant" an 9/10. Good characters and drama.

I give "Kandahar" a 6/10.  Just not as good. I couldn't of cared
less about the protagonists.

i think you might like "Tucker and Dale vs Evil"   its basically the horror version of an action movie youre describing.

Extraction 2 was okay, but I definitely preferred Extraction 1.

There was more emotional investment in the first film, more story. The second film was more about the action and less about the actual plot (and there were some major plot holes as a result). While the action sequences were fun (made me think of video games, tbh), that's all they were. Just meant to look really cool. Character development and arcs took a back seat to them, too, all of the characters were a lot more superficial and frankly cliché in the second film.

I personally got super bored, but to each their own.

Do you mean when they were fighting off helicopters on the train
and a mini-gun magically appeared on the roof right in front of him.

Extraction 2.

Still a great movie but not as good as the first one, which would be hard to better.
The one-shot action sequences are stunning and the camera work is superb.
Brother and sister duo, Nik and Yaz are interesting characters and were granted more development.

Solid 8/10 action movie.
