Might as well cram in some films before the new semester starts and I don't have the time.

There is always time if you can just steal some.

The first thing to say is that this is definitely not pyramid selling, OK?

My sister recommended 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' which is written by Taika Waititi who also wrote Jojo Rabbit, so I downloaded it and will watch tonight.

And how brilliant was that?  Two excellent films in two days.  Waititi managed to make you like all the characters, even in they were in the film for a short time, the same in Jojo Rabbit.  Sam Neill and Julian Dennison (Firefist from Deadpool) were really good.  There were two lines that made we laugh out loud too.  I found that he wrote 'What we do in the Shadows' too, which has Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), which I downloaded and will watch tonight.

Actually, I realised that he's also really good at acting as in Jojo Rabbit he is Hitler (superbly and very funnily done), in Hunt for the Wilderpeople he is the minister and in What we do in the Shadows is another main character.

He referenced it a number of pages back.

As I watched it months ago and like you thought, 'yeh, okay, bit cheesy in places, but overall, not too bad'

Every Christmas for about 12 years I watched Scrooged ("Is that a shotgun in your pocket or are you glad to see me?").  And a half dozen times since.

And I have seen Groundhog Day at least 20 times.

Stripes has worn a bit thin. Classic means timeless. Porky's was timely but not timeless.

The timeless Bill Murray film is CADDYSHACK! To hold your own against Rodney Dangerfield ("Hey, everybody! We're all gonna get laid!") and Chevy Chase, and the dang gopher!

Excuse, I think I'll give it another go!

Finally watched Parasite and loved it.  Brilliant film.  Did anyone else think to themselves while watching it, "I really want to live in a house like this" haha.

Finally watched Parasite and loved it.  Brilliant film.  Did anyone else think to themselves while watching it, "I really want to live in a house like this" haha.

Watched it yesterday, as I got a very decent torrent.  Can see what the hype was as beautifully shot, and very good story.  Didn't agree with some of the subtitles, could understand about 70% of the dialogue without it, as most of the time I was just listening to the dialogue.

Found this very interesting interview with Bong Joon Ho and Lee Ha Jun about the houses.  They built Park's house in Jeonju, as they couldn't quite find the one they wanted in Seoul for various reasons.

https://www.indiewire.com/2019/10/parasite-house-set-design-bong-joon-ho-1202185829/

Watched Üç Maymun (Three Monkeys) a Turkish film from my guy Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Winter Sleep and The Wild Pear Tree) and wasn't let down.  Saw a similar Argentinian film in 'Wild Tales' about someone doing something bad and then paying someone lower than them to the blame and then them receiving money when they are released.  Although this one came first, so obviously the other film copied it a little.

A reminder that Parasite will be released in Black and White on Feb 26th.

Not sure if there will be subbed versions but I'll keep y'all posted.

8mm

This is one of those films that I like enough to rewatch but always forget it exists until I come across some mention of it somewhere.

It also has a 52% out of 137,862 reviews, and a 6.5/10 on IMBD. Professional critics didn't like it for reasons, but it's not a bad movie, and a film doesn't have to be an absolute masterpiece to be a good or fun watch. It might have been considered "obscene" by some according to 1999 standards, but it's really tame compared to movies like Hostel, The Purge, and every single one of the Saw films.

And it has absolutely NOTHING on movies like "The Nice Guys" (which, by the way, is an AWESOME film... but it's definitely not for people who are disturbed by nudity or the sex industry).

I like "8mm" because it's a detective film starring Nicolas Cage. I have a soft spot for both. And since the premise of his character's case involves the possible rape and murder of a missing girl who got lured into the seedy underbelly of underground porn, of course a lot of the content is going to be disturbing... but, honestly, the film isn't really that graphic.
