Middle school 1 - short films
« on: November 24, 2010, 09:34:04 am »
I did this lesson with my first graders and they really enjoyed it. I played the first video, and allowed them 3 minutes to answer the questions by themselves and then we checked the answers together on the power point. Then we moved on to video 2. It takes about 45 minutes.
PS: My school doesn't want me to download a better browser, so I can't play youtube videos. Thus the naver links!

My Head of Dept said the Dept of Ed allows IE 6 & 7. Supposedly S.KS Ed dept software doesn't run in IE8.  I had the same experience 3 months ago in another school. They  actually removed Windows 2010 and replace it with XP to be compatible with Office of Ed software.  IN my former school al lthe library computers have IE6 which negatively impacts the screen display of webpages. In my current school I put IE 8 on my school laptop and have IE 7 in my class.  How could it possibly be that Ed dept software can't run in IE8?

I saw it your link.  Very fortunately for me at this school I have exclusive use of 2 computers  at school....I'm really grateful.  If I was sharing with someone, I wouldn't touch anything without permission.

Thanks for sharing this, Mel123. I think my students will really enjoy this.

Also, wanted to mention that we also watched the Pixar short "Kiwi!" and they loved it. I had them try to come up with their own questions about that film.

I have had great success with this lesson thank you for uploading it. I changed it a little bit for my purposes, I added a few things to the worksheet and also added some brief vocabulary building. If you want to use my version you should probably delete the butterfly slide. Great Job Mel123 and thank you.

I can't open Orange-Thief's version, Powerpoint says I don't have a text converter installed.  Is there a special font I need to download or does anyone know how I can fix this?

This sounds awesome, thanks!

thanks for sharing the ppts!  i've been looking for something to do with my ms students.  will this really take 45 minutes, though?  it's only 15 minute of videos...

Thanks so much for sharing this lesson! Great idea!! I think I am going to use this after the exams for something a little more relaxing. To make it a little bit longer, I plan on adding the short film, "Partly Cloudy" (Pixar/Disney). It's really cute and funny, and it's about 5 mins. long. :D

Thanks Mel123 and Orange_Thief for your work on short films  :D I really appreciate this sharing community. I used y'alls idea and upgraded the ppt and the worksheet a bit. Feel free to use and edit it all. Not too sure what other "useful words" I could use at the end of the worksheet, any ideas would be welcome. Cheers!
Here is the link to the upgrade ppt:
