SMOE Poll - teaching hours per week
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:27:19 am »
Those of you who work/have worked for SMOE, did you/your SMOE friends have the opportunity for paid hours over the basic 22?  I know it's a gamble and different at every school, but how common is it to get these extra hours (and help bump up my income!)?
**I currently work for EPIK in a rural area, teach 26-30 classroom hours/week within the 9am-5pm work hours, and get compensated well for the hours over 22.  I've been accepted into SMOE for March 2011.  Trying to weigh my options.....

I teach 24/week and am paid for the extra 2.  I could teach more if I wanted; dude before me was doing 30/week.

I work 23 but only get paid 22. They offered me extra vacation days instead.

I was told working extra hours is not in the budget, so I guess it depends what school you are at.

I have only been teaching in Seoul for 2 months, but just yesterday I found out that I have a chance to teach a new after school class for some overtime hours.  My wife teaches in Seoul too and found out today that they are willing to pay her overtime for an extra winter camp.  I think once you prove yourself, it is pretty common to get some extra hours/pay thrown your way.
