I need help spending the money
« on: November 29, 2011, 02:31:47 pm »
Our school has a huge budget that we must spend before the end of the semester.
But we cannot buy anything that is too expensive (which I think is a bull shit).

What does your school spend the money on?
Any suggestions?
 :P

Board games, workbooks, movies, pens/pencils (bulk), etc...
(I'm just thinking about things that I could use in my classroom)

What kind of school are you at? (Elementary, middle, high school?) That might help people suggest appropriate things.

I'd get a 3M wireless mouse and laser pointer. One of my co-workers has one and it's awesome.

The first result from google.

My former school was apparently flooded with English money. They built two new English classrooms with the newest in educational/presentation technology (the school only had about 350 students), stocked a decent sized library with books, games, and videos, and still had a grip left over. So, the four of us, English teachers, went on an all expenses paid 4 day bonding trip to Seoraksan and various other points of interest during a slow week at school. Of course, we also used some of our trip money to buy expensive souvenirs from our travels for the bosses.

Thanks for all of your input
I am currently at an elementary school
and we have an English library packed with board games, movies, and books!
(yes, we already have "apples to apples" and it is a wonderful game)

Laser pointer sounds pretty cool.

4 day paid trip sounds ridicuously AWSOME!
I am not if we can spend the money the same way you did.
But I will definitely ask my co-teacher about it.

Buy small prizes (other than candy) and stockpile a prize cupboard/box for use during the semester.  Also, depending on what type of activities you do with the kids, you could buy various materials for using in the lessons (boggle eyes, pom-poms, cardboard, paints, etc.).  Buy stickers for stickercharts.  Have a look on Amazon for kids CDs, audio books, DVDs (The Schoolhouse Rock series is pretty cool and kids love it), flashcards, games, activity books.  See if there's a particular workbook that you would like the kids to have as a supplement.

If you can't buy anything too expensive, ask for big quantities of cheaper things that you'll use anyway.  Have fun spending the money!

World Maps and Globes in every classroom.
Geography knowledge is dreadful.
We teach EFL not ESL. Hagwon and "Private School" are not synonymous. Not everyone works in either a hagwon or public school. Immigration Question? Call 1345.
