What should I see in Daegu?
« on: September 23, 2011, 09:39:44 am »
I've been in a lot of places in Korea, but Daegu has, for some reason, eluded me...I'm thinking this is a beautiful weekend to change that...what should I see while there? I like architecture, cool buildings, nice parks, beaches, rivers, lakes, anything ancient or historic, the usual stuff...thanks in advance!

Check out Herb Hillz if you have time. It's like a huge eco-park, and filled with a bunch of Herbs/nature...but the best part is their ziplining courses. They got 5 of them (If you go, do the King Kong course), and it's pretty fun. Definitely a good exercise too. It's about 20,000 won or so and you can choose two course I think.

Same question, I will be going to Daegu tomorrow.  Haven't the slightest idea of what to do there.

The coffee shop inside of Kyobo Bookstore in Daegu is nice, but it can be crowded.  I've heard people mention something about hiking Palgonsan and there is an Oriental Medicine market in Daegu, too.  KNU has a fairly nice campus if you like walking around university campuses.  And there is a reallly good mandoo restaurant in Daegu on the big intersection near English Plus.  It is run by an older couple, who make their own mandoo.  It's really good.

Temple - Donghwasa

Traditional market - Seomun Market

Park - Duryu Park, Dalseong Park (has a very depressing zoo)

Shopping - New Hyundai department store, anywhere in the downtown area (banwoldang station)

Random fun - Woobang Land amusement park,  ice skating at Woobang Tower or next to baseball stadium (check public skate hours first)

Nice view of Daegu - go to the top of Woobang Tower in Duryu Park

We walked around some cool area where the streets were mostly closed to traffic (TONS of foreigners there), had lunch and wandered around then went to the amusement park/tower thing...with advance tickets it cost us 16k won/person...not bad at all considering it included all the rides and stuff...I'll post some pics when I'm done editing them...definitely a good day, I can't wait to go back :)

I went last weekend and took the Cable Car up Apsen mountain (you can also hike but we ran out of time) It is a very nice view of the city and great for panoramas. Where did you buy the tickets fo the amusement park ahead of time? That sounds interesting for next time!

I would assume he means Caliente, located near the fire station downtown. Though, The Holy Grill has burritos I haven't tried yet.

I love Caliente as a bar and hangout spot, especially at night with great DJ music, darts, and pool, but was thoroughly disappointed with their Mexican food. I had a Chimichanga, but there was no sour cream. WHAT??! Hmmm....

Right next door to Caliente is a GREAT Japanese fusion restaurant called 10 O'Clock. I really recommend that place. Some great meat dishes and try the 대나무통술. It's a bamboo soju that has an apple taste and is really good.
