You had to be there in 1982 I guess.   Loved the Holden panel vans in the background as he strolled down Pitt Street in the rain.

I was there in 1981 when Joan Jett's "I love Rock 'n Roll" helped define the era.: https://youtu.be/d9jhDwxt22Y

If you like any competitive sport whatsover then this app from that era ought to jack you up! https://youtu.be/01tBFm2ygiI

Different part of the world so, while appreciating and being influenced, I wasn't really there as such, especially with regard to your idea of heavily protected competitive sport.

If it was Tie Domi or Rob Ray or Joey Kocur or Bob Probert throwing that punch, the other guy would be unconscious and twitching on the pitch, missing teeth and have a fractured eye orbital, nose and jaw with blood pouring from his face.

My linked video were WITHIN-THE-RULES HITS ... not... penalties!!!!!

Hockey & American football allow -  WITHIN THE RULES - hits penalized in soccer, basketball, etc.

https://youtu.be/v9EtLGwrJ58

And every hit within the rules of the game: https://youtu.be/01tBFm2ygiI

And in terms of the NFL: THIS tune rocks the physical rockin'! https://youtu.be/v-1MQ0Cnbhs

The three LINKED songs here rock! (This is a music thread above all).

It's all about the MUSIC, folks. Speaking of which, BTS is now considered one of the most popular groups in history, at least by one writer: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/joining-the-bts-army

I've made better music on the can after a night of fried chicken and cass!!!!~%^"^";&&":%^^;,>&

Music? How dare you!##~#%^<&:"~#%

But truth be told, I love BTS. I am, however, a deeply closeted gay man with a huge and girthy penis.
This! Clearly they are influencing a broader demographic than I anticipated initially.

I take it you didn't appreciate his cover version? Are you suggesting the chap was being disrespectful to your cultural idols? You seem to have gone off track and are wanting to discuss discuss gay acceptance when any mention of BTS is made while previously suggesting declaring such discussion homophobic. I guess you're still suffering from a lot of identity issues. Perhaps you might like to get back on topic and critique the gentlemen's vocal performance instead, and take you gay acceptance discussion back to an appropriate thread.

Dude this whole "Innocent me, I'm not being homophobic by constantly talking about how a group's fans must be either girls or gay" act is really pathetic and yes, homophobic. Who gives two shits who a group's fans are? And why is it so important to you that their fans are gay or not?

You're not fooling anyone. Grow the F up.

Or do you think comments such as yours are the kind of comments that promote waygook.org as a tolerant space for teachers where they will be free from harassment based on things such as race or sexual orientation?

I mean, if you students were talking about what music they liked, would your focus be on the perceived sexual orientation of that group's fans (and not taking this focus for any other group) and also suggesting that someone pointing out this focus is suffering from identity issues (i.e. some sort of mental disorder)?

You seem obsessed with Billboards and chart success. Isn't it good enough just to have a good reputation for cutting it live locally over a prolonged career?
I doubt most of his fan base are even alive let alone Youtube users.

You've got me thinking about the Australian music scene in the 70s and 80s again, Adel. It was a great period, and some fantastic acts and music were around. A lot of Kiwis headed over to try their luck. The NZ music scene was stunted, and the talent, with a few exceptions, had to head across the ditch to get a little recognition. I don't know if it ever got much better. Not saying that some of the local music wasn't good...just very Kiwi.
The next time my wife is away for a night (maybe next saturday she's going to a concert in Cheongju), I'm going to have a night of pints and Australian music. A sound idea  ;D

Speaking of Australian music, during the early days of the Internet, a decade before smartphones (1997-2002 especially), the best acoustic rock/soft rock (no pop) station i came across was an Aussie channel. I was stoked that I, in Canada, was listening daily to stations in Australia, Prague and San Antonio, USA. I felt as international as ever I have in all my years overseas since.

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting the Joan Jet wasn't there. Her cultural significance is evident in the state premier of Victoria attempting a cover version of hers.
Let's not forget though, Joan Kirner was a politician rather than musician.  Nonetheless the song had cultural resonance.
