neil young is my all-time favourite too. i've been listening to an incredible sounding bootleg from the recent crazy horse tour. the new songs are so, so good.

did you see the tracklist for the new album? eight songs (plus an alternate mix of one) on two cds. one of the new songs is in the 26 minute range!! can't wait.

his book is out in the next few weeks too.

sweet. I read his earlier biography called 'Shakey' which was really amazing. The guy is truly a living legend... the music he makes, equipment he designs (electrical genius), and the things he does for his family.

He's got so much material to listen to over such a wide range of sounds. My favorite live album is Weld with Crazy Horse, it just kicks butt.

shakey was awesome. i had to bring my copy to korea because i was always listening to his music and then rushing to the book in order to read about the songs.

if you like "weld" then you'll love the new stuff.

the track list and cover art for the new album came out today too.

Quote
Disc One:
1 Driftin' Back (27:36)
2 Psychedelic Pill (3:26)
3 Ramada Inn (16:49)
4 Born In Ontario (3:49)

Disc Two:
1 Twisted Road (3:28)
2 She's Always Dancing (8:33)
3 For The Love Of Man (4:13)
4 Walk Like A Giant (16:27)

whoops. sorry for the derail!

i am listening to neil young right now though, so it's sort of on topic.  :P

G.O.O.D. Music's 'Cruel Summer.'

Such a banger.

i came to post this too! i really like kanye west (i might be the only one who does). i purposefully ignored all the g.o.o.d. "leaks" over the past couple of months, so i'm listening for the first time now.

it's pretty good!

I'm listening to an awesome 90's alternative rock playlist on a website called 8tracks. Currently, it's 3am by Matchbox 20.

After one more day of listening, I have to rescind my original opinion and say the second half of this album is awful. Like, really, really bad.

which songs in particular?

some of the lines are a little bit... out there. it's like they're just talking about what they see on the drive in to the studio, rather than offering any proper lyrical prose.

"i passed a wendys on the street/i don't the people that i meet.
i hear they got some square hamburgers/i hate hiring too many chauffeurs."

not a real lyric, but that's what i felt like to me.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes - Here

It's an incredibly moving album. I could link to the video of "Man on Fire" (not to be confused with the Johnny Cash song by the same name) as it is really poignant, but their performance on Letterman knocked the wind out of me. It's that good.

NIN is my absolute favorite.

But, right now...King Crimson, "In the Court of the Crimson King".

not a real lyric, but that's what i felt like to me.

Honestly, the only tracks that are anywhere near the standard I would expect for an album like this are Clique [long pause], Cold, New God Flow, and Mercy.

I don't care about dumb lyrics - I love Waka Flocka, Rick Ross, etc, as long as the production is sweet, and vice versa. I can handle some really bland beats if the lyrics are awesome.

A lot of these just have neither. The Morning, The One, Sin City, Higher, Creepers, and Bliss are all completely forgettable.

And I think the biggest travesty on the entire album is Don't Like. The fact that Kanye could ruin such a ridiculously awesome song by doing a totally half-assed remix of it makes me sad.

Keep in mind, I love Kanye. But he dropped the ball big time on that one.

i'm going to have to listen again for a final opinion.

i wish kanye would hurry up and make "my beautiful dark twisted fantasy part 2" - because i could not get enough of that album. i'd play the whole album again as soon as the smattering of applause sounded up after gil scott-heron...

'The Investigation' by Umberto (experimental musician Matt Hill) - weird, odd, 80s pop mixed with 90s trance.
It's nice to be important but more important to be nice.
