Artist needs supplies in Daegu!!!!
« on: September 05, 2011, 11:57:00 am »
I am living in Daegu and am looking to buy some art supplies.  Things like canvas, paints, brushes, etc.  I have been to Home Plus and did not see anything like this.  I do not mind traveling a bit.

Also if anyone know of an art class in the city?

There is a small one near Myeongdeok subway station. I have never been in but I walk by it on the way to the subway and they have easels and canvas for sure.

If you take exit number 1 and walk straight for about 50m, just past the gas station and is on the corner of the first small street on the right.

The best one is S-Dot, next to the 28.8 park downtown. It's got almost anything you could possibly need.

Kyobo has a smaller section in general but a better pen selection IMO.

Next up would be the weird-crap store on the same road as Kaze Burger downtown. It has art supplies on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

There's another one near cellphone street that doesn't seem very big but they do sell easels.

Thanks y'all!

Where is the S-dot?  Is that near a subway stop?  Sorry I have only been here about 2 weeks so I have no idea where I am.  I live in the Bok-gu area.

S-Dot is closest to Jungangno station; get out and walk East towards 2.28 Memorial Park; you'll know you're going in the right direction if you're heading towards the Novotel. You may also go past the Lotte Young Centre and Kyobo Books, depending on where you are at the street level. Look up the address "South Korea Daegu Jung-gu Seongnae 1(il)-dong 12-1" on Google Maps and that will give you a rough idea of where it is.

While I've seen a lot of smaller art supply shops around Daegu, S-Dot is probably one of the best and one of the most comprehensive. One or two of the staff members knows some competent English, but be prepared to break out the ENG-KOR dictionary on your phone if you're looking for something a little obscure. Hot Tracks, which is in the basement of Kyobo Books is also pretty comprehensive but they're overpriced for a lot things, IMO.

I'll have to see what they have. Art supplies were really expensive when I was in Seoul, but hell, quality art supplies are expensive everywhere.

Asian-style art store on a side street by the Banwoldong (Downtown) police station opposite of the Papa John's if it's still there.  It's in one of those adjacent streets behind the cell phone shops.
