I've heard that because of the hot weather beaches are opening earlier this year. Anyone have any idea which beaches are open this weekend (if any)??? Thanks...

I was at Daecheon Beach in Boryeong three weeks ago and this past weekend and the beach was certainly 'open' both weekends.

Ganganri beach and Haeundae in Busan have been open since June 1.
And Walpo beach in Pohang is open today.

Thanks a lot guys! Any suggestions on which beach is the best? Is the water warm enough to take a dip in yet?

Excuse my ignorance but how do you have a beach "open "or closed? I thought a beach is just there like a mountain. Or is it a Korean thing? Are you not allowed on a beach in certain months?

Most beaches (outside of Busan) don't "officially" open until the beginning of July, but that doesn't mean you can't go. Koreans generally are pretty mentally strict about following the open/close dates so right now the beaches are much less crowded and you have the place to yourself. Beaches are never closed off and inaccessible though, even in the winter.

If the beaches are closed it means that the beach facilities are closed (tube/umbrella rental / toilets etc).  Also no lifeguards on duty - not that most foreigners need it :D

my friend said that korean people don't typically head to the beach until july, which seems absurd.

if it's warm and sunny outside, why not go to the beach??

The beaches are open Mon-Fri, 9:00 -17:00 in accordance with Korean government guidelines.
Please don't attempt to visit a beach during these times because you won't be able to get in.

Ha ha...yeah, I was thinking the water would be freezing but like y'all we're heading to the beach any ways. It's hot, it's sunny, that's all we need! I'm curious about Haeundae beach, from the pictures it looks decent...

I heard from my friend who have been to Haewoondae.
Haewoondae has already been open.
