Seoul to push through bill to ban dog meat consumption
« on: November 17, 2023, 02:58:38 pm »

https://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20231117000541

The South Korean government and the ruling People Power Party on Friday agreed to introduce,
before the end of this year, a special act to end dog meat consumption in Korea by 2027.

It's about time. Eating dogs has been a national embarrassment for such a long time. My boss
used to offer to take visitors out for dog meat. They would politely tell him to f_ _ _  _ _ f. He would
then explain that these dogs were bred to be eaten. He just sank deeper. I would just look down
averting everyone's gaze.

Dog restaurants have been gone for a long time already.

No, still a few around where I live. Even changed a good pork cutlet restaurant into a dog meat and soup place awhile back. Country folk do love their dog. I'm up the top end of Chungbuk.

Neither am I.  But I still don't see them anymore.  Places that I once knew as Boshin Tang Restaurants are something else now.

Hmm.  Interesting.  Guess only some areas got rid of them.  Most younger Koreans are soured on that quite strongly I do know.

Yep, still lots around. But only frequented by country bumpkins and
geriatrics. Both of which will be extinct sooner than later.

Yeah, I sometimes see farmers around my travel schools buying and tying up dogs in their fields during the summer. They usually hold onto them for about 2-3 weeks before killing and eating them.

Maybe a good time to open up a dog restaurant so you can get paid to shut it down:

"Agriculture Minister Chung Hwang-keun told the meeting the government would implement a ban quickly and provide the maximum possible support for those in the dog meat industry to close their businesses."

It sounds like the kind of thing my rural school kids would say to be funny or edgy, probably trying to troll the gullible foreigner.

It has been banned. my favorite spot is now using goat as a substitute. goat has a similar texture and flavor. i am pretty sure you might find it if you venture deep  in rural Korea.

Goat? Are you sure that's not Muslims pushing sharia law?

https://ca.yahoo.com/news/south-korean-farmers-threaten-release-161724582.html

A little bit longish article today, but very informative.

Takeaway:

[/b Authorities say there are over 1,000 breeding farms and 34 slaughterhouses in South Korea, as well as some 1,600 restaurants that serve dog meat. Industry representatives say the numbers are far bigger, with an estimated 3,500 farms and 3,000 restaurants that face risks of shutting down should a ban be implemented.]

Regulate it or close it down.

But Korea doesn’t like negative world press so in the long run, shut it down.

It is an ignorant, cruel and primitive practice.

Most people from other countries think Koreans are uncultured
savages for eating dogs.

Dude, we get it. You need to write crap like this to feel superior because of massive insecurity and a life of mediocrity and your only outlet is the internet and whatever circle of drunks you call your friends.

Hmm.  "cruel, primitive, savages".  Either you don't know what those words mean, or you don't understand how dog meat is prepared in Korea.

Or ... you just like arguing the nose on your face.
