Is using an adblock piracy?
« on: November 15, 2023, 01:48:57 pm »

One of my friends the other day said YouTube ads were getting out of hand.
I didn't understand what he was talking about. I have never seen an ad
attached to a video on YouTube. I have seen imbedded ads, but I always
FF through those. Then it hit me. My adblocker was screening out annoying
ads.

Haha. Then I looked into it more and this piracy/adblocker thing came up.
There is some serious crap on YouTube and I certainly would not want to
pay for it. Either with money or time.

If people want to create content on YouTube, great. But don't expect money
from me. Also, maybe they should ask at the end of a video If you wouldn't
mind watching an ad to help the Youtuber. I might do this. If I liked the vid.

Come on.  It doesn't matter if it was a video of naked cavorting Thai women smoking ganja on a Samui beach.  No one would watch an ad afterwards.  I am pretty sure that you can drag the cursor to the end of the video, then drag it back and watch it without the videos.  At least I read that.  I haven't bothered trying it.  If it's someone I subscribe to, like CO2's girlfriend's secret recordings of him hammered and trying to fight a mop or open the door of the wrong apartment (My Crazy Drunken Canadian Boyfriend) I support them by watching the ads.

I got the warning on YouTube about 2/3 weeks ago to disable my ad-blocker or I would be blocked from the site.

Most ads you can skip after 5 seconds, a minor inconvenience.

Maybe ads don't even work that well :undecided: After I got kicked from this site last August, I used another sock account and took out a RIP Billy banner ad for a month. I linked it to Whoreshare to make I drained more money from this site than the $25 I spent. I think I got 2,000 views but maybe only 25 clicks. Kinda disappointing.

I loath it.   when i got all those warnings, the first thing i did was google what would work as an alternative.

disable and remove your "adblock" or "adblockplus"  and install ublockorigin  if youtube ever catches it, you can delete the cache and update their program and it instantly works again.   youtube is unwatchable with ads.  I really hate ads.   Ive even started seening taxis now with the giant tv screen on the roof promoting dumb garbage.  would paint over them if i were younger and dumber and in another country.

 I linked it to Whoreshare

Can somebody explain what this is? I Google it and get nothing.
Sounds like something I could get into.

I’ll try the other ad-block alternative if the ads start to bother me. But I also own some Google (Alphabet) stock so feel like I need to help their earnings haha

It's just started happening to me as well. I might also have to look at an alternative Ad blocker.

Yeah. Sounds like something you'd get behind.
