The man in question was quoted saying, "시간 다 됐는데 왜 도착을 안 하는 거야" "We should've arrived by now, why haven't we arrived?" before opening the door and attempting to walk out.

The article mentions they'll seek the appropriate punishment for the man. Could have just let him walk out the door and saved themselves the trouble.

"Flight attendants were not able to stop the suspect from opening the door because the plane was about to land."

Protocol or just couldn't/didn't react?

"It is difficult to have a normal conversation with him," an official said.

Ok, so he's nuts!

Protocol or just couldn't/didn't react?

When an aircraft is landing the crew are all strapped in either at the back or front of the plane, so if he opened the middle door they probably didn't even see him doing it till is was too late.

What's it with people when they get on planes, they go nuts?
There is no known medical cure for stupidity!

Agree, apparently the exit he opened was located in an area where attendant seats aren't present, and everyone needed to be strapped in at the time including attendants, so attendants hadn't reacted because they literally weren't around when it happened.

He wasn't drunk, supposedly. I'm betting mental illness.

Yeah, so the guy was having some kind of psychotic break or episode. Apparently lost his job and was mentally unsound.

He opened an over-wing plug-in type exit at about 700 feet in altitude. The very last stages of final approach. The FA's would all have long-since been in their jumpseats going over emergency procedures in their heads  in case of a problem landing, which was seconds away.

The cabin pressure, normally at 10,00 feet during cruise, would have been equal to the ground level air pressure of 1 atmosphere, making opening the exit not particularly difficult.

I am shocked other passengers didn't try to stop him. To me, that's the real surprising thing.

Well it's a tough call. The risk of getting tossed out the door with him in whatever tumble ensued vs. the risk of whatever madman stunt he does that could put the plane at risk...

I am shocked other passengers didn't try to stop him. To me, that's the real surprising thing.

A couple of articles have stated that people prevented him from actually jumping out the door, and I think another one said that some people did try to stop him from opening the door in the first place but that they were unsuccessful.

What did people do to try to stop him? Yell at him? Physically hold him back? Were they just too late to get to him due to not realizing what was going on at first? Being in a state of disbelief? What happened after they managed to prevent him from jumping out the door? Was he restrained? Did he give up?

None of the articles I've seen had sufficient information on this. Just a couple of mentions with absolutely no details or follow-up, which makes the order of events a little confusing.
