Please be on the lookout for foreigners trying to escape!
« on: May 25, 2023, 01:59:02 pm »

Shipbuilders are seeing an increasing number of foreign workers deserting their jobs and
escaping from the shipyards, according to industry officials, Wednesday, who also said the
aggravated labor shortages are making it harder for the shipbuilders to meet the growing
global demand for vessels.

Haven't they thought of chains, or hobbling or maybe barbed wire.

Got to pay the Migrants less because the unionized workers are likely overpaid.

I love the explanations for these guys splitting:

Union:  poor working conditions and low wages

Hyundai: personal matters

Haha

Takeaway: The E-7 is an unjust, restrictive visa similar to the E-2. These
visas makes it easy for Koreans to exploit foreigners.

I notice that they were being hired through sub-contractors.  So those guys would be taking what they could off the top and giving as little as possible to the workers.  I just read an article the other day in the Bangkok Post that Korea is looking to get around 1500 skilled Thai workers for its shipyards.  Better shape up if they hope to meet that number.

And the article that comes in at #2 today is about exploiting foreign nannies, lol.

“Skilled workers” = high salary and benefits
“Skilled Thai workers” = minimum wage and a free meal

Surely all you have to do is chip them (either subdermally, or through collars battle royale style)...that way the government and the employers know exactly where their foreign workers are at all times...and if a worker absconds from their gainfully and benevolently provided position of exploitation employment, the chips can instantly neutralise the escapees illegals so that immigration police can pick them up.

Why is immigration trying to track them down? Is quitting your job illegal?

I'd guess they'd be in the country illegally.  You can't just self-declare yourself a tourist and arbitrarily change your visa.  Also, I'm guessing they didn't bolt so that they could get in some good hikes without the weekend crowds.  They had a job set up somewhere under the table.

They should offer a cash reward.  Then more people would turn them in.  I have always reported foreigners that did privates while working at public schools to the relevant authorities.  I do that because it's the right thing to do and I take great pride in following the rules.  However, some people only do things out of self-interest and need some incentive to report these scofflaws.

I'd feel dirty if I started receiving a cash reward for reporting English teachers' private lessons. I report them out of respect for Korea and its laws. I don't need to be financially rewarded for helping the authorities ensure the rules are followed. Knowing I did the right thing is enough for me.

I'm with you August and D.L. I actually self-reported myself to immigration some time back for doing privates. I was lucky, all they demanded was a month of free English lessons. Boy, didn't I learn my lesson!

I have always thought you were one of the good guys Kurt.  Now, after hearing this I am sure of it.  We have all made our mistakes.  I am reminded of the time I did those privates on a Saturday in Bundang for three years.  Or the time I took on so many classes at those study rooms in Jongno and Gangnam that Sunday was my only day off.  But, after some self-flagellation with some dry angel hair pasta I also came around.  I was going to report myself to immigration, but I thought they were probably really busy and didn't need the paperwork.

That makes three of us. As a Defender of Korea, I really appreciate your actions. I know we've sometimes argued, but this really has changed my view. Hopefully waygook.org can start some sort of listing/alert service where we can report these people and serve as a blacklist.

This sort of talk really shouldn't be permitted. We need to keep this place clean so we can report people to the authorities. I'm reporting you to the authorities.

You should learn from Augustiner's example on get on the right side of things.

I always report you guys to immigration or call the police when I read you don't fulfill your mandatory contract hours.
I even hogtied and ball-gagged myself once before calling the police to arrest me for leaving early during a desk warming session (I couldn't live with the guilt)
All these 'ghost' teacher classes and 18 hour work weeks are going to have some serious repercussions for you lot.

I just report every foreigner I see pre-emptively. It makes looking in the mirror pretty tough, but it's worth it.
