King Chuck E. Cheese III and Queen Camel Face? No thanks.
« on: May 09, 2023, 07:15:13 am »

I was born in the UK and moved to Canada while young. Both
places have this English "firm" as head of state. Although I admired
Liz for her dedication to duty, this new iteration of an ongoing
anachronism is too much.

There is no place in a democracy for an aristocracy. It is disgusting,
repugnant and against an egalitarian, modern society.

There are now more food banks in the UK than McDonald's but the
taxpayer is supposed to pay over £100 million so this silver-spooned
dolt with a paedophile brother can play king? No thanks.

Get rid of them.

Maybe the taxpayers of the UK are willing to pay for it :undecided:

Now that the coronation is done is it too much hope for that we can stop having stories about the British royalty shoved down our throats?  I don't really care about them one way or the other, but I'm so bored of having stories about them pop up in my newsfeeds.

Well, you're already well on your way to becoming a yank, so why not. (Chuck E. Cheese? I refuse to believe anyone outside of NA knows what that is)

Regardless, your alternative to the monarchy is to have room temperature IQ potatoes like Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, and their future iterations as your Head of State. Ask yourself, is that something you really want?

This is all outside of the fact that it is well demonstrated (at least during the reign of QEII) that the monarchy is a brilliant means of conducting diplomacy and exerting soft power.

I think in my lifetime I will see a lot of countries drop the UK potentate
as their head of state. Many Caribbean states are heading down that
path now.

Australia, New Zealand and Canada have very vocal anti-monarchy
movements and in Quebec a vast majority would like to see an end to it.

Blame Megan for that. Filling Harry's simple brain with all these ideas. Tearing him away from his family.

Are we sure the royal family is much better?

I know kids had more freedom back then, but I'm surprised your parents let you make that kind of decision so young.  Were you a logger?

from my limited knowledge of the whole drama harry seemed like he wanted an excuse or a way to stand out, megan mightve enabled some of that but id hardly call her a mastermind

Harry is a simple boy. A nice princess like Kate could have steered him closer to his family. Instead he chose an American actress. This was always going to be a problem. Megan couldn't handle the inevitable British tabloid backlash and pulled Harry away from his royal duties and obligations. Destroying his relationship with the family. Harry has now been relegated to the bottom rung of the ladder, below even Prince Andrew.
