I'm gonna go ahead with Dj Premier and The Alchemist

I've got huge respect for DJ Premier but I'm gonna go with Rick Rubin on the hisitorical front, Pete Rock for the 90s golden age, El-P for the early 2000s experimental turn and J Dilla for everything since.

Sorry, that's four, but each era needs its own.

Actually, I'm showing my age. Dilla died in 2006. I honestly don't really know who would qualify say, post-2010. I don't think that's been a great era for hip-hop apart from some weird underground stuff.

My love of rap and hip-hop is mainstream and revolves around a certain time and I never really paid attention to who was producing, just the performer.

Anyways, loved West Coast-Death Row. No Limit got big around the same time, but I never really felt it. I still remember the day after at school when Tupac got shot. Everyone was stunned. And the conspiracy theories that year...Like seemed almost everyone at one point or another thought he was going to come back and it was all a hoax or something.

I wish I was a bit older so I would have been around for the height of the New Jack Swing era. I have vague memories, but I was pretty young still.

One of the songs SOMEONE posted here awhile back was K-Doe's 'Count my Dope Money' in the 'What are you listening to now?' thread was K-Doe's 'Count my Dope Money'.

This was all part of 'Dirty Glove Records'. Dirty Glove was famous for its paid infomercials of its music videos on local TV (which actually worked and boosted their profile). Royce da 5'9" made a guest appearance on one of K-Doe's albums and me catching him on a Dirty Glove infomercial video was actually where I first heard of him. At the time I had sort of moved on from most rap (except anything playing in clubs) but catching Dirty Glove's vids at 2AM while buzzed was always fun.
