You need to check the group set and weight. I don't know this bike, heard of the brand but don't know much about it. Does it have an aluminuim frame? Some of the lower price bikes have steel frames, avoid those.

Thanks guys. He went with another one in the end. Another proud member of the local tacti-cool cycling gang 8)

I wish I could buy a new bike. I would love a Cannondale lefty. However, I don't
have a spare 8-9million right now.

My son-in-law is a club road cyclist. He bought a new second-hand bike from one of the other club members for 7.000.000 won. What it cost new I couldn't imagine. Probably add a couple of million on, at least. I have no idea of the make but it's as light as a feather...I easily picked it up with my fingertips.

It's a beautiful day, so time to start spring cleaning. I began with the shed. Hauled out our bikes for a wipe down after 4 months idol. The front bikes mine and the one at the back is my wife's. Photo taken outside my house. We enjoy riding the local tracks for exercise and bikes are so good for a quick trip to the supermarket and shops.

As I was taking the photos, Marti pulled up on his new pink scooter and wanted a photo with our bikes.

Nice looking pair of bikes, enjoy the nice weather on them.

You ride a Giant? Seriously? I honestly don't understand why you don't live in China already. Everyone here rides a Giant.

Giant is a Taiwanese company but they have a big factory in China. When I bought my bike it was in the middle of the pandemic so the Giant dealer told me he couldn't get me one as there was a lockdown in China and the factory had closed, that's how I ended up with the Performer as it is made locally and at that time all was well in Taiwan. I don't regret it though, this bike is a dream.

Isn't it nice to not have Marty on a thread being obnoxious.  Guess it is beneath him to come and share our joy.

I have an idea, when we don't want Marty derailing a thread give it a title about beautiful pictures of cycling equipment.

Sounds like a good idea. If you don't want JohnVoightCar detailing a thread, just call it something cycling-related.

I think you will find out very soon he is an expert on cycling.

I find it's the most popular brand in China. They have shops all over the country. If you need any servicing, it's the place to go. Hangook77 should bring his Giant to China. The ladies will be all over him.

I translated the name from Chinese to English. In Chinese they call it a '公路单' which sort of translates to 'road bike.' If it's a hybrid bike, what's it a hybrid between?
Between a road and a mountain bike.

Giant makes more bikes (bike frames) than any company in the world--they manufacture bikes for many other brands. They are quite popular in Korea because, for whatever reason, they are priced lower than similarly equipped bikes by Specialized or Trek.

Merida is the second largest manufacturer of bikes.

Wow. I did not know that. I like the brand. I was going to get one but I went to the cyclist shop with a tacti-cool cyclevangelist friend and he suggested I get the XDS bike. I'm glad I did, but I might like to have one with a few more gears that can carry more stuff.

Well, not if everyone already has one.

Giants are pretty much the best bang-for-your-buck in Korea. Every other “foreign” brand is expensive.

Who said I was talking about his bike?

Really?  You see them on the streets of Shanghai?

Yeah. Almost every second bike is a Giant. It's almost like hangook77 was Chinese in a past life.

Between a road and a mountain bike.

Well that's interesting. I had a Norco Kathmandu in Canada. I would never take that XDS anywhere mountainous. It would probably fall apart. It has no flexibility. It has only three gears with a really intricate shifting mechanism that can't be fixed on the fly, and absolutely no suspension. Maybe I'm just babying the thing, but I couldn't see it lasting ten minutes on any halfway serious mountain trail. Not arguing. Just genuinely curious about definitions.

Check out my neighbors' tacti-cool cycling gear. I'd like to get a bike like this one. hangook77, they have a Giant, just like you.
