http://m.epik.go.kr/description/salary01.phpLook at the maximum pay. The most populous province is still at 2.5. The highest provincial pay was previously 2.7 and is currently 2.7. Which places raised their ceiling caps?
There is supposedly a shortage of teachers here now.
I don't know if this is related but the two elementary schools where I live don't have a NET anymore. Oh yeah, and the other two elementary schools about 10 minutes away by car in opposite directions, also don't have a NET.

Talked to the Gyeongbuk POE rep and they said over here, it's for the schools *only*, and meant as a last resort if no cheaper rents are available in the are. NETs here will still be receiving the 400k. I pointed out that I knew of teachers who were receiving 500k, and they told me in no uncertain terms that that was a mistake, and if they knew who it was, they would talk to the school. So, uh, just saying, if you're getting 500k from a gyeongbuk school, don't make any noise about it!
The rent must be a little bit cheaper out in the rural areas of Gyeongbuk for the POE to still decided to not give teachers the extra 100,000 won
Then why give the schools 500k? If it's not getting expensive for the teachers, why would it be getting expensive for the schools?
EPIK approved the 500k. .. Not giving you multiple school allowance during the vacation, etc. But on the plus side, the schools and education offices left you alone. Go home early, no desk warming, etc. So, you left them alone too. Seems many of the rural provinces are not paying out the money while some of the metro cities are. Which means you are now making the same as rural top levels minus the rural bonus and multiple school allowances unless you go to more than one school there. 2.6 plus 100 k I mean.
Maybe the extra money is given to the schools to use towards the key money/ deposit? Or they could just be pocketing it or using it towards other things like school renovations... who knows :<
Schools don't have a key money/deposit fund, at least in my province. Instead they pay more monthly with no deposit (such as 0 deposit 400k monthly, instead of 10m deposit 300k monthly).Landlords often accept because there's no risk that the schools won't pay up or disappear on them, and are likely to renew the lease year after year. And yeah, EPIK has nothing to do with teachers once they finish orientation and are placed in schools. They're just a recruiter/placement/orientation service.
