Jesus, what is it?!

haha its a 2001 Hyundai Tuscani.  2.7Liter, manual transmission,  and someone (2 owners before me) put all the skirt kits and bumper kits all over it. So Ive jokingly signed the dashboard with Paul Walker's signature.  And its bright red,  so in a sea of black and white korean cars, it sticks out like a nun at an orgy, or a woman of ill repute at a nunery,  not sure which is more apt.

Watch out for trees.

What kind of mileage does it get?

He was all over his own dashboard, see no reason not to have his signature on yours.

I fill the tank for about 70,000 these days from empty, and get about 450km out of it. I assume its about a 55 liter tank. so,  (confused mathing....)  8-9km to the liter

Honestly not terrible considering its age.

I was just about to go to bed when I read this insulting comment. Thanks a lot. How am I going to sleep now?

Is there anyone who is arguing that buying a car is an investment?

It's like buying a computer, as soon as you open the box it starts losing value. But it's a tool that fulfills a specific task, and if it suits your needs and is within your means, go for it.

Exactly.

Food is not an investment either, yet certain posters here spend a lot of time on it.

Not sure any of this was serious
Regarding status, it makes sense
I think a lot might come down to your circle of friends. If most of them are working at their parents restaurant or some 3rd rate job after graduating, they aren't going to care as much. If a bunch are doing well and working at some fancy job? Also if you're 24 and you start working at the big Wall St. firm and you see your coworkers walking around in designer suits or outfits and drinking at fancy bars.

And now for the harsh bit- It's pretty easy to say you're above all this when good looks waved bye-bye 10-20 years ago, as did any hope of making it big, as did all of your successful friends back home, as did any big time dreams and ambition.

Now I get it if you had, did well and now you're 50 and who gives a f? Often at 50 it should be more about "toys" (i.e. the boat/the golf clubs/the 2nd home) than some handbag. That being said, seems like most here weren't exactly at the top of the social totem pole here or back home and more than a few did not grow up in a much more stratified and inproximity to big levels of affluence and didn't even get that big city social status environment after graduating.

Having no experience with glitz n glamour and claiming to be above it all doesn't mean you're above it all, it just means you've never really been tested.

All that being said, a lot of it comes down to mindset and maybe even genetics (like people on the spectrum having little interest in such things, and this probably carries into "normal" people), so if you were put into that situation, there's a fair chance you'd be the same. At most you might roll you eyes as you spend money on that luxury gift for you boss' bday or whatever.
Some 70-year-old man or woman in a Porsche cabriolet or the like is a sad sight, IMO.

Over the course of evolution, they say, women developed bigger pelvises than men to give birth to babies with bigger heads who are more intelligent. As a result, women's arms tend to slope outwards as they extend down from narrower shoulders to their hips.
In contrast, men have wider shoulders than their hips causing their arms to extend down straight.
The sloped arms of women are less advantageous than the straight arms of men when it comes to throwing spears or wielding knives for hunting. And a large pelvis that lowers the body's center of mass makes it more difficult to run fast.
As a result of this physical trait, men focused on hunting while women on gathering.

How does this bear on shopping? Surveys show that the top item on a list of things male university students want the most is a car, while female college students favor handbags. Perhaps men yearned for a transportation machine that served their hunting instincts, while women wanted to have receptacles to carry their loot around in.

Yeah. And on the screen you can see how much you're pouring for each individual beer.

Sounds like a good way to sample everything on tap.
I can see.  I can see.  I can see....

Just be careful, cuz you won't get a cumulative total of your bracelet. You'll get how much your glass costs on the screen. Easy to check out at the end of the day and go "Ah, crap. X amount of won? Damn, son." haha
