How many languages do you speak 2.0

What are these labs you're talking about?  Is it a Canadian term? I took a Mandarin elective (science major) but never heard of language labs.

Canadian here, no idea what a lab is.

Language labs were what they called the language lab.  Do I need to spell it out for you guys?  You would go in and sit in separate stations and put on headphones.  You would then repeat when necessary and the instructor could listen in on and comment on whomever they wished.

Maybe that's just in uni? I have never done that in my life. Granted, maybe my French imersion program didn't do that. My schooling from SK to Grade 8 was HARDLY normal. Even high school went from the 90% in French to 40%.

My co-teachers will ask me about school experiences in Canada and I have to remind them that I was in a different program.

  Uhhhh, we all had to keep our head above the water of "Ah, shit, we're learning chemistry in our second language." There was no time to do any of that shit, hahaha. The kids from troubled backgrounds, or the super disobedient ones simply didn't get put into the French program. Their parents are worried about them pssing ENGLISH class let alone having ALL of their subjects being taught in their second language.

Honestly, put your kids in the French program. They will learn French and be totally fluent. But the added benefit is that there are very few SHITHEADS in the class. They simply don't make it. There's no wiggle room for your misbehaving nonsense. I'm trying to learn how electricity works in a second language and so are you, STFU and listen or you will fail hard.

Laboratories do work experimenting, not rote repeating of commands.

I learned the most Spanish in my life one evening on Myeongsashimni beach on Shinjido near Wando in 2003 trying to communicate with a Korean who spent over a decade in Uruguay, my French helping but EXPERIMENTING (hits and misses, and recalibrations being par for that course - i in a sand trap repeatedly, taking chip shots).

I don’t know what to say. A quick google search will bring up definitions of a language laboratory or language lab. Van both incorrectly defined a lab and described what happens in a language lab so congrats on that double shot of ignorance.

Yeah Van had it all backwards. Back in my day, we went to the language lab to research languages. We would take our findings and use it to create new words. Hence the name "language lab." Van has it  all backwards (which is a word we invented, we took the word "back" and found that if we added "wards" to it it would mean "going in the back direction". Science! You can't make this stuff up!)

Every orca -  like its cousin - every dolphin, is a whale.

I once had an argument in a bar with a guy who insisted dolphins were fish. It took me half a minute to release i was barking up an empty tree.

I did swim a lot before kindy, could never run in the top half of any school race but was 2nd, 3rd, 4th a lot in swimming. I did win a 48-hour swim contest: you had to go two days... easy peasy lemon... um, we're supposed to talk about languages here. I have nine years of French. I have a huge vocabulary and bad grammar: as most of our students do.

If a student could string ten words together, then... (we are 9 words in... ) ... ... j'ai etudies francais pour neuf ans mais ma grammaire est terriable!
