In high school i lost the (real gold) eagle necklace gift from my dad while playing sports on a field in the neighborhood. I was devastated and tried relentlessly to find it to no avail.

A few years later, I couldn't find my parked car on a college campus with diverse parking areas, i youthfully unaware of the disadvantage of parking in different areas on different days, willy nilly. I spent a lot of time crisscrossing campus, and eventually i got it thanks to help from others in finding it; decades later i'm still having nightmares about it.

My keys, in contrast, i know exactly where because my dad always put his keys in the same place. My wallet, not so much.

Fast forward: I this year lost a pair of glasses when out for dinner with a Korean bud who led the 3-stop: dinner, drinks with anju, norebang singing and beer until 3am.

I lost a gold plated lighter that my wife bought me for my 25th birthday. Never to be found.

Like you, I lost my car after promising to give some drunk Russians a lift home. They were not impressed. My wife found it the next day. This was in 2003, in the same town we still live in. (glad i did lose it, I was way over the limit)

I lost my wallet (2001) and it was returned to me intact, a day later.

I lost my bike (2004). Got drunk and couldn't remember where I left it.

I lost my 100 year old violin. Left it at the bus stop. Again, it was returned a few days later.

Also, my wedding ring. End of season rugby trip. Took my ring off at the hotel before the match. My wife found it several weeks later, under the bag's lining.

Mustn't forget the last inch of my index finger. Never got that back

# My wife keeps misplacing her phone, so now she wears a watch that can locate her phone. Very good for the absent minded  ;D

Lost my mind once. Never did find it again.

Lost my mind once. Never did find it again.

I can relate to this. I lost my soul and gave up finding it.

I definitely lost one of the weapons for one of my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures back around 1990 or so and it still haunts me to this day. Sometimes I wonder if that same carpet is on that same floor in that same house and if, fingers-crossed if, if Raphael's sai is still embedded somewhere in the threads or if some foul vacuum cleaner finished it off once and for all.

Lol...yeah, lost kids toys. I reckon the garden where I grew up would be worth a fortune in collectable matchbox cars.

Lost my mind once. Never did find it again.

I'm so proud of myself. I predicted you would come up with " I lost my marbles". Close enough lol.

lost a pair of very expensive prescription oakley sunglasses once.  they were steel, needed to be heavy for wearing while driving a motorcycle.  ill never spend that amount of money on sunglasses ever again.  the positive side here is that in korea i can get prescription sunglasses for about 60,000won.  and change the lenses when they get real dinged up, (about 2-3 years later)

Not really a valid response, though. It's supposed to be physical things.

Come on Billy, marbles are both physical and mental. I had a feeling you'd come up with the lost my marbles/lost my mind. Call it a spooky hunch. All's good.
Actually, that's another thing I did lose...my bag of marbles to the next-door neighbour.

Marbles are real things.  I've lost some--and won some.

Aggies, cat's eyes, steelies, tigers, puries, and of course, shooters.

I loved the cat's eyes and tigers best. What were the ones that were like porcelain called again?  Ahh yeah, woke up and remembered...Shephe rds! Marbles were a big deal as a kid in the 60s.

When I was in Hainan, the Hawaii of China, I lost a wrestling match to a guy with a weird ring name. I thought he was a jabroni. Shows what I know.

That reminds me of the movie Friday Night Lights. How did that guy find the championship ring his dad tossed from a moving car into a field on the side of the road?
