I've been to Prince George.  I did a spring of tree planting back in the university days.  Unless a B.C. marathon is a different distance or Terry got very lost, it wouldn't have taken him through the cheering throngs in Kamloops.  I think Van just watched him as a school kid in class on TV and has warped the memory into a Vancentric moment where he hugged Terry at the finish line amidst a roaring crowd in downtown Kamloops.

Jesus, you weren't kidding. 500km walk from one to the other.

He definitely didn't run past Kamloops during the Marathon of Hope.
VanIslander says it was maybe before then.
I read about that Prince George Marathon. That is where he decided to run across the country. But that was over 500 kms away from Kamloops so it wasn't the one.

Moreover: reportedly, when he started the Marathon of Hope, he was not a well-known figure and got little to no publicity in the beginning. That makes me conclude that no crowd would gather and wait for hours just to see him, before he became famous during the run. So that is not what Van saw either. Did he run after he had to stop? I found no such information.
