TV series you are watching now

The intro to "Meanwhile" is always a linguistically complex, mentally-pleasing visual and verbal extravaganza.

I skip most of Stephen Colbert these days but have "Meanwhile" youtubed. It is an Emmy-winning segment. He should publish a book of his intros to that segment: I'd glady pay 30,000 won for a few hundreds of them at the beach (away from the phone - the new standard for book purchases).

... Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and I didn't think his accent was right for the part...I don't know, it just didn't work for me....

Why on earth would anyone expect the lead of Hawaii 5-0 to be like the guy who was in Magnum, PI?

Still lol! I think you meant Jack Lord, as in Steve McGarrett of the classic line "Book em, Danno". You need to add more frog DNA to your diet, or at least a large juicy steak.

I binge watched the 'Lincoln Lawyer' Netflix TV show the other night (actually over 2 nights). Not bad, but as expected a bit light in places. I was kind of hoping for a 'Bosch' style, but not to be! The acting was good though, with some good actors like Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (from 'The Chi'), however the lead role of Mickey Haller was played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and I didn't think his accent was right for the part...I don't know, it just didn't work for me. Give it a watch, it's good but I doubt that you'll come away stunned. 6.5/10 for me.

I tried that the other day, but had the same issues.  I've read all The Lincoln Lawyer books, and that guy was not Mickey Haller.  If you've read the Bosch books you'll know that Bosch and Haller are paternal half brothers.  So, the productions can't be related as a recent episode of Bosch: Legacy had a flashback to Bosch meeting his dad and seeing a very white young Mickey Haller in front of the house.  So, the new series has him as a dark haired Latino.  That would be the woke thing, I guess.  I still tried it but it didn't seem as gritty as the books or the Bosch series. 

 I mixed up two Hawaii based series from 40 and 50 years ago. Shocking. I haven't seen either in a long time. (Neither of them I came across ever in the 1990's or beyond, though this century one could seek them out online.)

I used to watch the Hawaii-based NFL pro bowl. But then it moved to the mainland, and before the Super Bowl, and I was among the many who lost interest, including the players, it being a non-contact spectacle these days.

The problem with the Pro Bowl is that it's a meaningless game at the end of an exhausting season. What incentive is there for the players to risk injury in a game like this?

... It stars Jeff Bridges as an old CIA agent who becomes a man of interest again after he and his wife did a disappearing trick years ago.
John Lithgow is also in it as the FBI Director, at least for 4 episodes. Funny, even though he's older, he looks just the same.
One small thing, Jeff Bridges either has a huge tongue that he keeps playing with when talking, or his speech impediment is real. He's mumbling more than usual.

I said "Excuse me" and bypassed Bridges at the Toronto International Film Festival back in the late '90s. I was beelining for whatisname. Uh, yeah, Lou Gossett, Jr., whom i then met and shook his hand and questioned. Since then came "I'm the dude!", and i instantly regretted my prior priorities.

Season 3 of The Boys. Started off slow but picks up steam by looking to the past.

Thanks Rye for the "Dark Winds" and "The Old Man" recommendations. Different style of dramas but equally enjoyable.

"Only Murders in the Building" season 2 starts on June 28th. Loved the first season so hoping it continues.

I recently watched a series called 'Evil' (2019).

A good balance of detective mystery and supernatural vs. religion themes.

Also it has that creepy guy who played Ben Linus on 'Lost' who is a superb actor. 

The Old Man ,with Jeff Bridges (on Hulu).
