I donít really follow the logic of Tesla stock losing $130 over it though?!

Musk's attention will wander from Tesla, is probably the assumption. SpaceX, the Boring Company, now this. There are only so many hours in the day.

Musk basically is Tesla, so its stock tanks whenever he does some shit that really makes headlines. Tesla stock also dropped after he smoked weed on the Joe Rogan show, lol.

Deleted some off-topic arguments.
Apologies if it seems like, you know, censorship.

Speaking of, I heard that if Mr.Musk acquires twitter, he would make the code open-sourced.
Is this an effort to make ranking algorithms transparent and mollify those who might otherwise claim that censorship and partisanship is built into the platform?
Seems to me that it would open up a lot of possibilities for the tech savvy to deliberately game the algorithms to promote their comments over others.

That he's borrowing against Tesla stock to buy Twitter is another possible explanation.

Yes, we're all aware of the topics you need to demonstrate a certain conformity of opinion about these days at the risk of being censored by petty gatekeepers like you. Which, as you alluded to, was one the reasons Musk bought Twitter. Rather devious of you to pretend it was down to off topic arguments which go on all the time unchecked on other threads.

No worries robo-rex, it was just a half-dozen off-topic insults that were deleted -- a literal argument with the potential of hurting feeling etc.
If it had been a more interesting/meaningful off-topic discussion, it would've been moved to a different thread (or just left to play out: nothing wrong with a bit of side discussion imho). If it was deleted for reasons of content, that would've been mentioned too.

thats true, but i still think that having it open-source is preferable either way. it also depends on how exploitable the algorithm is and whether or not musk makes any changes to it.

Yeah. I'm all for transparency, so I think it's a good move on the company's part.
I'd worry more about people gaming the algorithm if Twitter was actually something I used lol.
In any case, I suspect that the code wouldn't be made public unless the algorithms were super robust.

Yeah, I don't think Truth social or whatever it's called is going to make big waves.
Truth Social is actually the most popular iPhone app at the moment. Twitter is second. People will have the option of posting on either platform about topics such as Hunter Biden's laptop without being censored. The left-wing bias in social media is being significantly diluted and free speech online is being restored.

However, should they criticize Trump's haircut or mention his indebtedness to Russian oligarchs, they will be banned in a heartbeat.

in the case of an app like truth social which is being heavily pushed by a particular political ideology you have to wonder how many of those downloads will actually end up active users (vs how many people downloaded it just to show support or w.e)

For some people, free speech is only free speech when the particular speech with which they agree with isn't freely censored.

Honestly, considering how polarized USAian society currently is, the only platform where real free-speech could ever happen would be one developed and hosted by some uninvolved, neutral 3rd party like, uh... Brazil maybe? India? Madagascar?

considering how big the US is on the world stage i dont think theres any uninvolved, neutral third party to be found, lol

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at with those examples!
Still, a touch of bias isn't necessarily a bad thing so long as it's openly known and utterly transparent, I guess. Automate as much of the moderating as possible, and hope that the AI responsible hasn't been doing its cloud-based deep-learning on politico-sites.

The left-wing bias in social media is being significantly diluted and free speech online is being restored.

I just searched for #HunterBidenLaptop on Twitter. The first thing that comes up is a cartoon featuring Hunter Biden in his underwear, surrounded by a pedophile Mickey Mouse, Joe Biden with his falling off his ass and shouting "Wear masks!", a Pfizer syringe plunging into the word "Lies" and Kamala Harris with her legs spread. Then we get calls for Joe Biden to be impeached on account of a couple e-mails from Ukrainian biotech business reps looking to get Hunter's attention, which apparently stand as proof of "weaponized biolabs in Ukraine". This is followed by a call to put "this pedophile behind bars" because Hunter apparently encouraged his brother to get an HIV test in a leaked e-mail. Further down, there's a meme blaming Joe Biden for high gas prices, despite the fact that they're high in dozens of other countries. Shortly thereafter, there's a video of a young girl in an interrogation room, surrounded by hashtags such as #Illuminati #SICK #EVIL #HillaryClinton #AWAKENING #satanic #BidenCrimeFamily

So T_Rex, I'm curious as to how you think American public discourse might be improved when Twitter stops censoring discussions of Hunter Biden's laptop.

Apparently Rosemary Barton said she would cancel her twitter account once Elon bought it.  Just another far left bias fake news journalist who doesn't care about truth but only commie bs instead.

https://mashable.com/article/trump-truth-social-free-speech-bans

Quote
Web developer Matt Ortega signed up for the Truth Social service and soon discovered an email from Truth Social telling him that his account had been banned. Ortega confirmed the authenticity of the email and ban in a private message to Mashable.

Furthermore, Ortega had never posted a single thing to Truth Social as his account was one of the many still on the waitlist to join. Ortega was banned simply because of the username he used to sign up for the platform: @DevinNunesCow...

"Your account @DevinNunesCow has been banned," reads the subject of the Truth Social email received by Ortega. "After careful review, we have decided to delete your account permanently due to Truth Social community guideline violations."

So, to be clear, a user was banned from Trump's new "free speech" social media platform for registering a username that Truth Social's CEO does not like.

Interestingly, Truth Social has specific rules limiting speech on the platform when it involves Trump and others who own the platform. When Truth Social was first announced last year, the site's terms of services explicitly prohibited "disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site."

And Ortega's not the only one who has already experienced the limits of Truth Social's "free speech," albeit under very different circumstances.

Right-wing personality Stew Peters is claiming he was censored on Truth Social, too. Unlike Ortega, Peters already has an account set up on Trump's platform and is already posting content. According to Peters, his post calling for the execution of those responsible for the COVID-19 vaccine, was labeled as "sensitive content" by Truth Social, requiring users to go through an extra step to view the content in the post.

The vaccines that are available in the U.S. were developed under the Trump administration, and is something Trump continues to tout as a success.

"I'm ALREADY being censored on Truth Social," wrote Peters on the chat service Telegram. "Free Speech isn't free."

The only question is, are Trumpists actually surprised by this? Or will they deny what is plainly in front of their faces? Maybe blame someone else? I'm thinking Soros and Hillary could be responsible. Maybe Hunter Biden, too.
