Need advice on part time work

I'm on an f visa and started working for a hagwon part-time. My paid hours are 2-6, but since day one they've asked my to come in an hour early for lesson planning. While this isn't ideal, as it is technically unpaid, I can live with that arrangement. However, now they are expecting me to correct papers and schoolwork during this lesson planning time. I haven't actually done any of this work yet because it seems to me I should be paid for this actual work. The papers to correct are from the Korean teachers classes not my classes. Am I being unreasonable to expect to be paid for this time or is the owner trying to take advantage of me? I already know the answer for myself, but I'd appreciate some feedback to see how others would handle it. Thanks everyone!

Just the days and times, nothing about lesson planning or grading being unpaid. If they push the issue I’ll mark the papers during my classes. I don’t have any breaks as the classes all run consecutively.

You're not being unreasonable. It'll only get worse, in my opinion. I don't know the solution other than being firm and sticking to the hours on your contract. If they expected you there an hour early or to stay late, those hours should be paid and specified on the contract. You're working for free.

I lied. I do know the solution. F-visa holders can easily quit and find another job tomorrow. You're not an E-2 slave, so I'd be outtie like clam chowdie, since the handwriting is on the wall for that job.

Depends on how much they are paying and how difficult would it be to replace this position with a similar one.
If they pay 50k/hour, you could just think of it as working 5 hours for 40k/hour, which is still good.

I've worked for more than a dozen different hagwons part-time. None of them required me to be there earlier for lesson planning. As a matter of fact, I never signed a contract either. Just agreed on the payment and the working hours and that was it.

The added prep time and work, coupled with the no break schedule tells me that they are taking advantage of you.
Having no break time is a dick move. While it is tough to teach back to back classes, I understand if the schedule can't be adjusted to allow some breaks. But in that case, the hourly payment shoul reflect it. Or count 5-10 minutes/hour extra time and add that on top of your worked hours. 4 hours with no break means at least 4h30min should be paid. Or get higher hourly for 4 hours.

So if you don't really need this job than tell them to stick their arbitrary changes where they want, you are out.

If you would rather keep working there and don't want bad blood between you and the school, you could just tell them that you have a new job right before this hagwon, so there is no way you can be there an hour earlier. Kindergartens will start the new semester in March. The timing is perfect. Tell them you got a kinder job from 12:00 to 1:30 so you could only arrive 10-15 minutes before your first class starts.

Either way, it wouldn't hurt to keep checking other job openings. You might find one with better conditions.

Yeah spoke to the owner and the manager. I agreed to 30 minutes prep unpaid, but refused to do any type of work (correct papers etc) during that time. I’d prefer to just keep this job, but I’ll have no qualms about just quitting when the time comes.

Thanks for the feedback.  A korean teacher started the same day as me with the same schedule and quit after the first week LOL.
