We often hear: “Why is the US giving foreign aid when there are homeless within its borders? Take care of your own country before worrying about other countries.”
Half a million homeless. Twenty two million millionaires. That's 44 to 1.About one in five hundred Americans are homeless. Most are mentally ill and/or drug addicted. They've burned all bridges. How to help them? Not sure, but giving them more and more cash isn't the answer; they'll waste it. A TV crew gave $100,000 to a homeless man. Within months it was all gone and he was back on the streets. Howard Stern gave $10,000. The homeless guy bought a drum set and went to Vegas. A month later, he was once again penniless. A woman interviewed for a Wall Street Journal article said it's a commonly believed myth that the homeless are normal people like me or you who have just fallen on hard times. Her job is helping the homeless and she sees only one or two a year who are neither mentally ill nor drug addicted. These are the easiest to help and these are the ones who stay homeless for the least amount of time. ———————————————We often hear: “Why is the US giving foreign aid when there are homeless within its borders? Take care of your own country before worrying about other countries.”The number of homeless can never be brought down to zero. Good deeds in any area should be welcomed. About befriending autocrats like Putin, Xi, and Kim Jeong Un, it seldom ends well. Best to incentivize them to do good and disincentivize them from doing harm.
American infrastructure is crumbling, numerous Americans are homeless, and people are paying out of pocket at the gas pumps.
How exactly is "colonialism is bad", "invasion is wrong" "racism is wrong" "massacring civilians is wrong" wokeness?Isn't that basic morality? Again, no one is saying they were worse than the Nazis, just that they did those things too. What they didn't do was industrialized genocide and that is why they aren't as evil. Also, you still haven't answered the question- Why is it "one-sided" to talk about the bad things Great Britain did" but it isn't "one-sided" to just talk about the bad things the Nazis did? Do you agree that if we talk about the good things the British Empire did or the good parts of Churchill, that we should also talk about the good things the Nazis did and the good parts of Hitler?
Gas price per gallon: Australia: $5.38Canada: $5.94Ireland: $7.95New Zealand: $7.32South Africa: $5.00South Korea: $5.80United Kingdom: $8.06United States: $4.69World Average: $5.06TL; DR - American gas prices are below the world average.
It's not a nice word, I can tell you that.
No doubt they picked homeless folks who would prove (their) your point.
Actually, the opposite. The TV show searched for a homeless person most likely to succeed. He didn't. Picking someone off the streets at random equates to a high chance they'll be dead the next day from a drug overdose following the $100,000 windfall. Unlimited crack, unlimited meth, unlimited heroin equals huge danger. In the case of Howard Stern, the smartest homeless person got the money by winning a Jeopardy game. The questions were easy. "Who was the first US president?" No one knew. "In Germany, the swastika was the symbol of what political party?" No one knew. The last question was "What is five times six?" Two got it wrong; one got it right. They all had negative points on the scoreboard. The person with negative one thousand got the $10,000 prize.
Not buying it.
A homeless man who used his last $20 to fill up the gas tank of a stranded motorist in Philadelphia has bought a home with some of the nearly $400,000 raised for him by the woman he saved.
US has given $54 Billion to pumping weapons into Ukraine since February. It is a ludicrous amount. You don't seem to possess any perspective here, but let me help you out. US$ 54 Billion -in 3 months- is more than they spent on the war in Afghanistan per year. Its more than Russia spends on its armed forces in one year.
Basically because it provides neo-nazis cover and selling points.
Churchill had his moment and made the most of it. That, and his painting, drinking and witticisms, is what he's remembered for. Great cover for his feet of clay.
Is it $54 billion in aid? I googled that number; nothing came up. Much of the aid is humanitarian, not just military. Two trillion spent over a twenty year period is $100 million a year. Russia's military budget is $66 billion a year.
Ukraine is now the top recipient of US military aid, surpassing even Israel and Egypt.https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/interactive/2022/biden-ukraine-military-aid-us/
Not buying it? It was recorded. It happened. Before I just read about it in YouTube comments. Watching now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuBHUP1HPu8
Churchill had his good moments and his bad moments. But he wasn't evil. The British Empire did a lot of good things and a lot of awful things, some of which could be considered evil.
But when they defied this script, Churchill demanded they be crushed with extreme force. As Colonial Secretary in the 1920s, he unleashed the notorious Black and Tan thugs on Ireland’s Catholic civilians, and when the Kurds rebelled against British rule, he said: “I am strongly in favour of using poisoned gas against uncivilised tribes...[It] would spread a lively terror.”
Contemplating restive populations in northwest Asia, he infamously lamented the "squeamishness" of his colleagues, who were not in "favor of using poisoned gas against uncivilized tribes."
Churchill was one of a coterie of imperial rulers who worked to create sectarian fissures within India's independence movement between Indian Hindus and Muslims, which led to the brutal partition of India when the former colony finally did win its freedom in 1947.
Most notoriously, Churchill presided over the hideous 1943 famine in Bengal, where some 3 million Indians perished, largely as a result of British imperial mismanagement. Churchill was both indifferent to the Indian plight and even mocked the millions suffering, chuckling over the culling of a population that bred "like rabbits."
