My winter camp is 6 weeks long! Book swap anyone?
« Reply #82 on: December 09, 2011, 08:00:48 pm »

MY winter camp is super long! I was expecting 3 weeks but 6 wow! I have to have all of my plans together just two weeks after they told me this. Fun times.

Anyways, I saw Dr. Krashen at the KTESOL conference, and he got me excited about getting the kids to read. So I'm going to spend most of my efforts getting them to read story books.

Here are a few I have been working on. I scanned photoshoped and changed the text, so it should be optimal for easy acquisition.

It's a lot of work to do this though, so if other people are doing this it would be great to share.

Six Weeks Long?

Mine is only three weeks long!  Are you getting extra pay?

I wish I could help, but I don't have access to a scanner! :(

Unless you are teaching during your scheduled vacation or something, why would you get extra pay? Your contract is a ~40 hour work week with ~22 teaching hours.

If you search Three Little Pigs on this site, I posted a "Read along" powerpoint of the original story and also the "True" story with all the photos and stuff.

Because most contracts have a two week (40 hour camp) per vacation and any extra hours on that is considered overtime.

Okay, this is the workbook I've made for my grade 5/6 mixed camp.  My co-teacher wanted us to review topics from the textbook, so we chose five that both grades had in common (family/jobs, telling time, directions, past tense and invitations).  My camp is two 120-minute lessons each day for five days.  I've ripped off material from waygook right and left for this, and especially stuff from the Seongwon camp book posted earlier, so thanks to all those who made stuff I used.  Also, the "classroom English" lesson that's meant to cover the last ten minutes isn't in here yet because my co-teacher is doing that and I don't have the materials.

I do have a 10 day vacation in there and a lot of days off for holidays. I don't think I have more than a dozen regular school days for almost three months. I haven't added it all up.

Unfortunately there is nothing in MY contract stating a maximum of two weeks teaching camps a semester. That would be nice though.

On the other had it will be really good experience. Like being a real teacher.  ;D

Thank you, Brian. This will come in very handy with Winter English Camp coming up. Resources available are always appreciated by new English teachers.

It's about past tense and silly sally.

Thank you to everyone for all these ideas and textbooks.  Having been teaching here for almost a month, I was beginning to feel quite overwhelmed by this whole Summer Camp thing (unheard of in my my corner of the world).

Hugs and  :-*

This is a camp textbook my co-teacher gave me. I think it's for elementary grades 4-6, although it could be adapted for your own needs. Some of it's useful, some of it no so much but it's handy if you need some inspiration! You can also copy and paste most of the stuff (including pictures)  :D  :D

I nearly forgot!! There's a CD that should go with this, but I haven't got it. Pretty easy to figure out or you could just skip those sections. I'm uploading in 3 segments as the file size is too big  ???

thank you so much to everyone for sharing :D I'm so nervous about the winter camps that I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge. But now, I hope to be more prepared.

My camp textbook - Its a mixture of original and waygook stuff. I teach at a Girl's middle school so there may be a few "she or her's" in there as well as my name. Some of the related powerpoints are on here so I won't attach just search for them. I've also used prezi's and I'll attach the links.

My camp is 3 weeks, I don't like doing a theme so I've done just general stuff for most of it as well as a zombie week.

Here are a couple of camp books I have written.

It's for elementary level.
The winter camp book is written for lower level students.
Both books cover 10 days worth of lessons. Each day should fill about 2 hours (2 periods) of class time.

Enjoy

Wrangler, this is great! I know it was a while ago, but there are some things in the winter camp booklet mentioning things like "Can you spot the fakes?", mentioning 28 pictures. Are there other powerpoints or attachments for your camp?
