It is one of the darkest chapters in South Korea's post-war history, a site where thousands were allegedly enslaved, abused, raped and even killed.

Incredible that random people could be simply rounded up and put into camps.

Some interesting footage of Korea from the start of the 1980's.

I have been in this country for 20 years.
I have loved my jobs and my experiences.

I somehow can't click this. I"ll let other mods do so.

Pre-democracy Korea was not a very nice place in many ways.

Especially if you were arrest/detained by any of the government agencies. Good chance you'll come back a few IQ points lower.

Seems like the old orphanages and poor houses 100 years back (in the west).  And other institutions.  Some checked out okay and others you'd hear stories about.

Hard to watch.

The sadistic owners got charged with embezzlement. They simply changed their names then went back into business again. Bad Hogwon owners still do that when they've been nailed by the labor board.

The perpetrator was acquitted as the prosecutor got pressure from friends in government.

"The South Korean government called the Brothers Home and other similar concentration camps opened by the Chun Doo-hwan regime during the fourth and fifth republics: 'welfare centers'.

"A DW news article reports a minimum of 516 people died over the course of 20 years at Brother's Home.[5] Widespread torture was common in these welfare centers.[6][7] In the 1990s, construction labourers dug up about 100 human bones on the patch of mountain just outside where it stood."

Park is dead now. His family has relocated to Australia. They show no interest in compensating the victims or even in acknowledging how they became so wealthy. Pastor Lim also lives in Australia and has never faced justice for his complicity.

Evil. The above quote reminds me very much of the residential school scandals that are currently in the media in Canada.
