Government made new red days this year only - second semester.

They are Monday's following holidays that fall on the weekends.

These temporary red days for this year will be on:

August 16th
October 4th
October 11th
December 27th

Evidently, the government wants people to spend and travel.

Mark it on your phone and calendar.

This is how it's worked in Ontario forever.

You get so many holidays a year. The fact that it happens on a SAT/SUN shouldn't bone one out of a day off at the whim of the calender.

That's a selfish mindset. This will benefit millions of workers across the country.

It would benefit millions plus one if it was the Friday off before the weekend holiday long weekend. :)

Actually just found out education ministry will keep the school year at 190 days with no flexibility meaning a few extra days at the start or the end of the second semester.  But nice to take off days in between I guess.

You literally have no clue

“Public holidays with paid time off is generally defined to occur on a day that is within the employee's work week. When a holiday occurs on Saturday or Sunday, that holiday is shifted to either Friday or Monday for work purposes. Most employers follow a holiday schedule similar to the federal holidays of the United States, with exceptions or additions. The federal holiday schedule mainly benefits employees of government and government regulated businesses; however, this sector only comprises 15% of the working population.”
Thank you for the clarification.

Just going off of how things were back when I was schlepping at an hourly. You're right for salary.

Are you that out of touch?

"The United States celebrates Independence Day on July 4 every year.  In 2021, that falls on a Sunday, so Monday, July 5, is the associated Federal holiday.  Government offices and many businesses will be closed."

There is no justification for removing my comment!

Unless you go back and remove about 5,000 of Mrs. Pentherby's.

Not much of a break for those in public schools though as the school year days have to be adjusted. You'll get the red days off, but will have to make up for them :(

Yeah, I said it above.  But still nice to have some breather days in the middle of the semester, I guess.  I would prefer to take more time off in the fall when the weather is actually nice here.  (October.)

Research shows that attentiveness and effectiveness in schools improves if there is at least one school day off per month.
