It’s crazy the punishment is only 3 million meanwhile the foreign teachers probably get deported. F this country’s bs laws and enforcement.

Was pulling over a billion won per semester in tuition fees.

That school was 24 million won a year to attend?

So expensive!

He raked it in!

He’s a rich man now.

Set for life.

Crime pays.

For him anyways.

Three million won is nothing compared to all the moolah he made.

Wow, sweet scam:

Opened 2018/7, so five complete semesters as of the end of 2020.

110 students X 12,000,000 per semester X 5 semesters = 6,600,000,000KRW (US$6.6M)

Less 40-60% for rent, salaries etc. So, about US$2-2.5M net for a couple of years work. Nice.

Oops, sorry. Forgot to subtract the US$3,000 fine.

With a fine like that against the payoff, I'm sure he's already looking for his next location to open again in six months.

I thought private schools here are not allowed or are forced to take government money and be controlled.  Like literally extreme restrictions on personal freedom.

I know, right. Korean laws are so inconsistent. Enforcement is sketchy.
Why wouldn't he do exactly that?  Unless he figures scoring US$2M
is enough and he's going to chill.

Fines could increase for a second offense. Best not to push one’s luck in this situation. Just retire with the big pile of money.

It was a fringe 'school', that only well-heeled fringe parents would send their kids to. Their kids will have trouble entering virtually any post-secondary institutions going to these schools.

There are plenty of options for the well-heeled.

Uh oh, 6,000,000 won fine?! I'm sure that will make them reconsider doing this again.

That's why they're fringe, unusual, for anyone that can pay that tuition. Normal rich families send their kids to more conventional, legally legitimate, rich schools.
