Anybody with D-8-1 Visa Experience?
« on: June 10, 2021, 08:30:54 pm »
I’m planning to apply for a D-8 visa at the end of the year to start a 교습소, a mini hagwon. I have a lot of experience teaching in Korea and I am well known in the area where I plan to set up.

Although it is impossible to know how successful a business will be, a single-teacher education business outside of a major city can be expected to make, monthly:

2 million KRW by month 3
3-4 million KRW by month 6
6-8 million KRW by month 12.

I have spoken with representatives from the immigration office and KOTRA. The immigration office told me they cannot say how much I would need to make, but it’s “difficult” to renew a D-8-1 visa if the applicant’s business is not making a lot of money. The person I spoke to at KOTRA said that people are normally given a ‘second chance’ if their business has not been successful enough at the point of the first renewal. However, I don’t know how long the visa would be valid for from month zero, nor after the first renewal.

Could anyone who has experience operating a small company on this visa comment on how viable and secure my plan is?
