Sam Harris said to his podcast guests, if you feel like you misspoke or otherwise didnít represent an idea well or want to take back something you said in an interview, tell me and Iíll edit it out. Thatís a good way to live.
Real life is fairly difficult to edit out unless you're in a sci-fi movie or novel.

Again, this is about teaching in Vietnam.  Why do some of you feel the need to hijack a post for 4 plus pages with childish insults and nothing to do with Vietnam?

I know with your obvious victim mentality you're not capable of introspection.  But, it isn't  the message so much but rather that from the get go you've come across as combative and insulting and very, very easily triggered when people don't see things your way.  You refuse to consider other people's motivations or interests and judge everything from your personal perspective.  I can't think of any time where you've been polite and cordial with other people.  The first post I can recall off the top of my head is when you came on here slamming everyone for not contributing to the lesson materials (even though several posters aren't on here for that purpose) while crediting yourself with doing most of the work.  That set the tone.  Your social skills suck and everyone else is always at fault for whatever isn't going the way you want it.  You come across as a very angry and resentful poster.

Yes, I get that 10 per cent are rich kids who don't need money.  Meanwhile for the other 90 per cent.....
If people were here just for the money, they wouldn't be here. They're here for some combination of work-cation, white collar labor, pleasure, culture, etc.

You know which people ARE here for the money? The Sri Lankans and Nigerians and Malaysians.

YOU are not the majority.

I'd like to see a multivariate quantitative analysis of the above assumptions.

Or as Jerry Maguire put it, "Show me the money!"

Well, a true capitalist follows the money.  A true capitalist doesn't put up with exploitation.  Once something's no longer worth it, he doesn't make excuses to himself saying this is all there is.  He or she gets off their duff and goes and does something about it.  When my 3 mil is no longer worth it (and with these rising living costs that will prob be soon), then it will be time to move on.

In fact with Vietnam and China paying much better and Vietnam cracking down on the fake teachers, there will be plenty of openings once Covid is done.  Korea has had it too good for the past 10 years, but not for much longer.  It had better smarten up and start hiking the pay for everyone or it will start losing teachers.  Maybe 5% will stay hoping to meet BTS or Super Junior or some chick who wants to marry a K drama star or something, but Korea will lose and the scale will start tipping. Maybe the next 2 or 3 years?

Anyways, I'm no fan of Communism and reject it in my own country.  But whatever other folks do in theirs is their gig so long as they don't intrude on me.  Now, show me the money....

lol you're not a capitalist. you're a (low-level) worker. but you're right, a true capitalist doesn't just put up with exploitation, they profit off of it.

Exactly. A true capitalist opens their own hagwon and pays his workers the minimum he can get away with. That seems to be something of which you disapprove, Hangook The Red.

That's an excellent point.  Hangook has frequently railed against the capitalist pig owners of hakwans maximizing their profits at the expense of comrade worker.  Certainly an odd stance to take if you're a capitalist.

A true capitalist has to make the money first to open that hakwon.  It'll take you decades to save those start up costs on 2.1 million now staying here.  Best go to another country to make the money first and then if you love it here and want to open one you can do that with the REAL savings you made elsewhere.

Rubbish.  A true capitalist borrows the money.
