Maybe not dressage, but show jumping. And if they added some horse racing to it, well that would certainly draw interest.

If the bull was given metal-tipped horns and none of those piccadillos or whoever on horses helping out the matador, then I'd be for that. Something like a 50-50 between the man and the bull. Give em one of those 1950s style boxing posters  "Throwdown in Cape Town" Or have it be the first Olympics in international waters.
Hmmm...should be under consideration

Oh yeah, horse racing would be exciting.

This is offensive.

"they hated jesus because he told them the truth"

i'd love to see skateboarding but it's too subjective. but an olympic game of SKATE would be tight

skateboarding is supposed to debut at the 2020 olympics :)

No more than snowboarding halfpipe or figure skating.

The discussions this week are lame. Break up the Sino-minutiae.

Figure this should be discuss-y enough without being troll-y.

Get rid of sailing. If you're going to keep it, add sharks or some shit.

Add in MMA. It's one of the biggest sports in the world and for it not to be an Olympic sport is just plain stubbornness.

Also, they should add American football just because.

MMA fighters are not about to fight for free.....
American football...so essentially it would be just the US and Canada...not even a bronze medal would be awarded.

You're off your game today.

You're off your game today.
You'd still have Mexico, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Plus a bunch of U.S. athletes could just represent a country of origin.

Also, it would be a great chance for all those Commonwealthers trashing NFL because of the pads and whatnot to put their money where their mouths are.

MMA fighters would fight for gold because of the money they'd get in future bouts.

Well, I could advocate for men's sport, but trans men are no threat physically speaking. They still have a women's lung, heart, muscle, and bone density.
If you want to advocate for women's sport, how about starting with attending matches, buying merchandise, supporting equal funding and resources, and supporting a harassment free environment for their athletes?

Transgender and fairness of competition is such a relatively minor issue in the scope of women's sport. There are massive disparities in terms of funding and resources that have way more of an effect on women's athletics than a few celebrity cases of transgender athletes dominating.

Also, the sports science is still out on the whole issue, while I certainly lean in one direction, the direction you advocate, we have to explore things long term and with adequate sample sizes. There's also the possibility of additional therapies or requirements to make sure there is a level playing field. This is early in the process so mistakes will be made and solutions will be developed. That's the what's great about right now- A bunch of different sports associations and states and school districts and governing bodies are trying a bunch of different rules and methods and we can compare their results. The fact is we need some competitions to be open so we can see what happens.  Yes, it might create some disappointing outcomes, but it's the only way we will be able to develop effective policy.

Anyways, you don't have to watch WNBA over NBA, but if you want to advocate for women's sport pick a local team or a certain sport (and not oggling at beach volleyball or tennis) and support it. I'd say women's handball here is pretty alright. or indoor volleyball. Or women's football overseas.

i think all the fight sports should stay as they're all sufficiently different (except karate. karate can **** right off after 2020). MAYBE get rid of greco-roman. but boxing/tkd/judo/wrestling are all different enough imo

i'd love to see skateboarding but it's too subjective. but an olympic game of SKATE would be tight

I propose that karate and tkd have a winner-take-all showdown!

I kid.

TKD is more sport, and Karate is more a martial art.

Take out anything 'horsey' and add Twenty20 cricket.

ADD: Mixed Martial Arts. Or cricket. Or more global: free running!

SUBTRACT: Rythmic gymnastics
Teenage girls twirling a ribbon and dancing to music always seemed like a joke.

Get rid of Race walking

Add competitive tag, parkour or slap competitions

Also, it would be a great chance for all those Commonwealthers trashing NFL because of the pads and whatnot to put their money where their mouths are.

NFL will never catch on outside the US. It's just too complex, expensive and specialised. If we look at soccer/football, the most popular sport on Earth, we see that its popularity is based on simplicity and ease of access, all you need is a round ball and makeshift posts.

Like Rugby union, NFL is complex and requires a team to play.

I'm not sure about NFL, but Rugby's popularity has gradually been growing thanks to changes in the laws/rules to make the game more fast-paced, exciting and safe. Gone are the days of the ref stopping the game every 10sec for every minor infraction or being very stingy with the substitutions forcing players to play longer games and limiting the amount of power, speed and aggression we see on the field.

For the rest of the world to be interested, NFL has to scratch an itch that Rugby doesn't.

And this! Really thrilling  :lipsrsealed:

Get rid of some of those shooting events. It's not like shooting a gun is a great test of your athletic ability. Or the equestrians events, if you got to involve another living being, it shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Couldn't disagree more. I did biathlon (skiing and shooting) in Canada. Extremely
demanding and requiring immense skill and concentration.

Perhaps, but do enough people wish to watch it to warrant it being part of the largest competitive sporting event on Earth?

Professional athletes are also professional entertainers and their sport needs to have an element of entertainment, particularly if it's to be part of the Olympics.
If not, the sport needs to adapt to be more entertaining and sports such as Rugby (7s and the evolution of the laws) and Cricket (T20) have adapted to be more entertaining to watch, while still maintaining the core elements of the game.

Sports like Olympic shooting and even fencing have become so technical, digital and lifeless to watch. Olympic shooting is a guy holding a pellet gun, a very slight click noise, followed by a tiny hole appearing on a piece of paper... yawn.

When I was a kid, the Olympics was about amateur sport; professionals were not allowed. It is only the past few decades it has become an major advertising and entertainment event.

Perhaps you should realize the Olympics was founded as warfare
practice and competition. Discus, javelin, wrestling, chariots.
