Are we not going to talk about the cold?

Looked like a winter wonderland outside last night. That was a lot of big fluffy snow.  The boughs of some of the evergreens in my complex were bending with the weight. Loved it.  Unfortunately with  temps. Jumping up today it’s turning into quagmire. Wish it had lasted a little longer. 

Looks like another round of snow from tomorrow evening. It will make the Monday morning commute interesting. Thank goodness I only need to go out in the afternoon.

That's one thing I always avoid.

Um, you have a 10-minute commute.

There are commutes and commutes. For some people it's the best part of the day. I used to love taking a boat from my island in Hong Kong to the mainland every morning. Always guaranteed a seat, 30 minutes of gentle sea travel, enough time to watch an episode of my favorite drama. In the evening you could buy a half bottle of wine at the kiosk and sit in the outside section watching the sunset.  In Italy my commute took me right through the centre of the historic old town every morning, an uplifting experience that never got tired. I've also commuted on trams, funicular railways and on a scooter. Even the outside section of line two in Seoul sometimes is quite interesting. The underground section with everyone wearing masks and staring at their phones, not so much.

yes, exactly. in melbourne, i'd quite happily cycle an hour to work. the cycle paths were lovely and it was very relaxing. i used to be able to walk to work in seoul along to back alleys, which was also great. now i have to catch line 2 sometimes at rush hour. it's really grim, even though it's only for 20 minutes. i'd rather cycle an hour than do that commute

One or two hours a day, 5 to 10 a week, 20 to 40 a month, 200+ to 400+ hours a year...

You gotta either appreciate it or avoid it,
.... or .... ugh... be one of the sluggard-looking or lethargic masses you see going to and from work during "rush" hours. It's like a sad sci-fi scene every time i take the subway (which is twice or so a year, when shopping in big cities).

Seriously, rats and moles in dirt holes have more joy than them!

When someone has a family, they can't just simply  move around to be close to one of the parents' workplace. What about the other parent? What about the kids' school? What about the grandparents that help out?
Living in employer provided housing as a single person is a very different thing.
Also, there is a very good chance that those people you describe, wouldn't want to trade their lives with yours.

Not to mention wanting to buy your own home

None of what you responded to are Korea specific. The same stands anywhere around the world.

If you came to talk about the cold, there was no reason for you to bring up the issues you have with the 2.1 wage.

You keep bringing it up.  Either way turn down the heat and keep pinching your pennies if it's what you wish. 

Snowed a bit today, which is nice. Unfortunately I'm back at school again, so couldn't run outside to enjoy it. 
The cold hasn't been terrible where I live (near Daegu), except for on those days where it's super windy.
I like to run along the river next to my apartment, and unfortunately it gets really windy there. Chilly chilly chilly!

That area was last weekend and early last week.  By end of week melted and this morning got some snow. So far still here.  Prob gone by tomorrow is my guess.  Snow never stays here for long.  Just lucky enough to have had some snow before that cold snap we had last week.  Gone now.  (And thanks.)
