This is very sad to read. I also read in the Korea Times this morning that Korea is fast running out of ICU beds and a couple of dudes died while waiting for a bed.

I really hope Korea can get things under control again.

People do stupid things as can be seen in Europe and the US where a slack attitude caused chaos.

Here in Taiwan they did something which to my mind is pure stupidity and I am quite disappointed that this happened.

Since April there have been no local infections  only imported since they obviously allow their citizens to return and they rely on foreigner workers for their industries so they allowed them to come too. They managed to contain those imported cases to about 132 active cases but what they did this weekend was pure insanity.

On Sunday in Taipei they held a marathon with 28,000 runners from all over the world. Absolutely crazy, can you  imagine if just 10 of those athletes had the virus, how it would spread.

So, I am not getting rid of my masks just yet.

All this talking of a huge Corona spike in korea... it's still less than 0.04% of the cases happening everyday is the USA. 1/7th the population, but 1/251 the number of new Covid cases.
And when the vaccine finally does come to Korea, the required 70% of the population needed to create herd immunity will probably take it without too much fuss. Not so likely in North America, unfortunately.
 Current polls put 42% of the population there at "unwilling to take the vaccine".

Yeah the Moon Admin/Korea effed up on not building up a stock of ICU beds and getting vaccine ready.

As I've always said, it's not criticism, it's bad/sterotyped/ignorant/poorly thought-out criticism.

A) Korea dropped the ball with failing to increase ICU beds and being at the back of the line on the vaccine.

B) Korean stupidity strikes again. A bunch of ajosshis too busy drinking soju to accomplish anything. Confusionism strikes again.

Did they at least have to do 2 weeks of quarantining? Here in New Zealand the borders are basically closed, but NZ citizens can still come back in, and have been streaming in by the thousands. But they all have to do 2 weeks of quarantine at a managed isolation hotel before rejoining society, no exceptions.

Yes, they do and did have the 2 weeks quarantine and they are quite tough on that especially if you break your quarantine they really throw the book at you. One Filipino foreign worker left his room to put a package down next to his friend's door which took him 8 seconds and and they nailed him with a $5,000 US, fine. One Taiwanese businessman stepped out for some coffee and they nailed him with $33,000 US, fine.

But, I am still not comfortable with that sort of event taking place, I must admit.

Well sounds like what they do here, which works really well. They've had the dumb America's Cup boat race here lately with teams from the UK, US and Italy, and no problems after they did their quarantine. They keep flying in international cricket teams which also have to do quarantine, which is good because when the Pakistan team arrived they all had covid lol. But they haven't let in average people at all unless they have an NZ passport or residency visa like spouses/children of kiwis. The government has to pay $4000 or so for each person to quarantine for 2 weeks in a hotel. If non-kiwis like the cricket teams or boat teams come in, they have to pay for their own quarantine.

I got jabbed the day before I flew to Korea.

Military gets priority due to deployments or leaving the country.

I still have to do my 14-day isolation period here though which is fine.

I prefer to wait to let others take it first.  Since it was rushed.  I will be happy to go without.  (If they buy some sketchy Chinese or Russian crap, I am not taking that even if I am fired.)  I can wait to see the effects on others first.
