Cooking activities for kids
« on: November 26, 2020, 04:04:26 pm »
Hello all!
With the lockdown going strong in England I have my kids (5 and 7 years old) home all the time. I decided to strengthen our bond but also teach them some new skills. We often cook together, at home and it was time for the kids to be included in a greater way. We are home! We can practice and have fun while doing so. First of all please PLEASE remember to purchase a special kid's friendly knife if you're going to teach children how to use it. We have two sets of Jovitec knives for our boys.  Here is a list of things that have passed the test of Family Friendly Cooking for kids with age similar to our boys.
For the older one (junior is learning to read but those two tasks were too difficult and time consuming for him yet):
- reading recipe steps out loud
- measuring and counting items/ingredients

For both kids:
- cracking eggs (they found it hilarious for some reason)
- rolling and forming dough or meat
- mixing dry ingredients
- chopping fruits (soft ones like bananas, peaches etc)
- setting the table

Also we are talking about spices. How to use them, what do they pair well with and how to recognize the smell and the look.

It is fun, it is educational and it helps children to feel included! If you like cooking I wholeheartedly recommend including your kids in the activity. Also if you know of other things they can help with around kitchen please let me know!

Ask me about bank opening times.
