What is up with these school lunches??

Even in middle school (Kingston, ON), we were (with permission from parents. Sign a form in Sep, etc.). This was grade 7 and 8. High school (Barrie, ON)? You didn't need permission.

Imagine telling a 16 year old he can't leave school property? It's absurd. The kid can drive a car but can't walk to the 7-11 5 mins away. Bizarre.

Happened to me during my first year or two.
I'm now a big fan of the "Don't ask, don't tell." strategy. Works for leaving work on Friday a bit early too. And for borrowing office supplies for my classroom. And for reformatting the classroom computer to get rid of those **** security programmes that make saving my ppts literally impossible. And for swapping my chair for the nice rolly one from the upstairs office that nobody seems to be using. And for... uh, well, you get the idea.

It also turns out not to be an ideal military policy!

It has been better to don't ask and don't tell.  Plead ignorance and beg forgiveness later.  That had been my strategy for years.  However, Korea is changing quickly and schools are getting more retarded.  Not just in Seoul but creeping into the whole country more and more.  So, be careful more than before. 

I had chicken wings, spicy mandu with soy sauce, cucumber salad, kimchi, brown rice, and budae jiggae.  Pretty damn good if you ask me.  My Tuesday school has the best lunches evah!!!!

In 2002 I saw maybe 1 or 2 students A YEAR   I would consider "overweight". Now I see 1 or 2 every day, heck, in some classes. On the street I can use all my fingers on an afternoon walk counting chubby guys.

Height also has changed. It's incredible at how much taller my students have become.  I am over 6-feet tall and yet a girl and three boys still in elementary school are almost my height! In 2002 I felt like a giant in this country.

Tell me again why the stores still sell Asian Size clothing?  It's really dumb and makes no sense.  Plus why do even the US brands sold here sell that plus put spandex in it so it clings to any weight you have looking even more terrible?  Geeze!!  Seriously, just adopt American sizes.  All the Koreans under 50 or 60 will fit into it fine.

Kids here still are kind of forced to do more walking than your average North American teen. I don't think the % of obesity will hit American levels, but it's getting up there.

Korea now also has one of the highest rates of cancer (top 20 in the world) which was shocking.
Yes, all the fried foods, processed foods, western style foods pervading korean culture and society
has made huge changes in Korea that most people don't even realize.  The grandparents are amazingly strong and healthy still working the farms at 90 years old every morning at 5am.  They grew up on organic foods and none of that fast food processed BS food we have now.

I think you might be overlooking that for folk over 70 years of age, their formative years were spent in one of the poorest, least developed countries in the world.
