I haven't started it, yet, but I'm planning to watch The Bear sometime this week. Wasn't originally going to, but I keep seeing memes about it, so I've decided to hop on that bandwagon.

Been putting off watching the latest season of Stranger Things as well as The Sandman, but I'll get around to it.

Has anyone seen Money Heist?

What's it like? What would you compare it to?

It's a sort of cross between a fantasy and sci-fi

I might check 'The Bear' out as well...hadn't heard about it before you mentioned it.

As for 'Stranger Things', I've tried 3 times to get in to it, but can't for some reason. I'm thinking it's a me problem.

I watched episode 1 of 'Sandman' the other day. Not what I generally watch, but I should really give the second episode a shot before wiping it completely.

Yeah, The Bear was just barely on my radar when it first came out, but it's been getting so much attention in my patch of the world that it almost feels irresponsible of me not to give it a look now.

I'm kind of with you on Stranger Things, it's not really my cup, but I watch it so that I can throw as much hate at it as I want. It's not a bad series at all, I understand why it's so popular, but the writing and character development does get sloppy enough to deserve a lot of criticism, and that often gets ignored by fanatical fandom.

The Sandman is also not my usual thing, hence why I've been putting it off, but I'm also a huge Neil Gaiman fan, so I feel like I need to give it a shot if not for any other reason. I've been surprised before and absolutely loved things that I normally wouldn't, so why not?

I looked this up, because I thought you were talking about the late 80s Jean-Jacques Annaud film, which is an extraordinary piece of filmmaking.  Same guy that made Quest for Fire.

the terminal list is a great modern war series.  kind of like the manchurian candidate and shooter mixed together.   Chris Pratt is very good in it.

I recommend Counterpart, a series that ran on Starz! Only 2 seasons, but some good stuff.

Okay, I watched 5 episodes last night. Episode 1 was chaos! I nearly didn't go for number 2. Glad I I did! It was still a little chaotic, but a sense of where this show was going and who the characters were, kicked in. By the end of 5, I was loving it. Very different, and bodes well for a very watchable series. Hope you enjoy it

Thanks for the follow-up, I'll probably get started on it this weekend.

So on vacation, staying inside mainly, due to this weather, deep diving YT.  This guy is kind of entertaining, the "Anti-Chef" and he's doing recipes of Julia Child.  Worth a look:

Just finished the 3rd season of The Orville, it was definitely the best season of the three. I think it's been 3-4 years since season 2 but I'd say it was worth the wait.

If you're not sure what it is, it's basically Star Trek meets a slightly less wacky Seth MacFarlane.

'House of the Dragon'
I watched episode one last night. It's the story of the 'House Targaryen' set around 200 years before 'Game of Thrones'. Too early to tell if it will be great, but looks as promising (or near enough) as GOT.

On my watchlist, still working my day through Stranger Things (last episode of Season 3) but I'll probably save up and watch 2 episodes at a time of this.

Rings of Power (very pre-LOTR) launches September 2 so I'm eagerly anticipating this.

I disagree. It is taking itself too seriously now. It was better when humor was the aim.

this new season was excellent.  and the reason behind it is also fantastic.  fox wanted it to be a zany silly seth mcfarlane venture.  mcfarlane, being a big fan of trek and star wars wanted it to be a more serious take on sci-fi.  it takes a lot of progressive views and works them into the plot, which can be a little upfront, but thats a good thing in my opinion. if you want a dumb scifi that you dont need to think about, you could check out that one with the boy and the cat... the animated one.  forget its name. mcfarlane is sure to lose the audience of some of the more sub-human numpties, but im certain he doesnt care. told fox to jog on.

so... shoehorning in progressive takes makes you think how, exactly? if its "a little upfront" it cant be forcing viewers to activate too many of their almonds, lol.

not that i have anything against progressive themes or messages in media, people can say whatever they want in their own shows and if it still gets airtime, good on em. but lets not pretend that having a political slant somehow makes a show "smarter" (esp considering how dumb politics are these days)

Personally, I didn't like it. For me, House Targ has always been the least compelling of all the houses and I just found myself completely uninterested in them and their drama. BUT, I will say that if you're a House Targ fan, it's probably gold.

I mean, me personally, I would have loved to see Dorne or the Free Cities fleshed out some more.

I agree with those that say Season 3 was a major step-up for The Orville. Sometimes the humor in Season 1&2 was just off and I have a sneaking suspicion Seth made some of it cringey just so that fans would react indifferently and that it would get phased out.  Season 3 was a stretch of episodes up there with DS9 Season 5/6 or TNG Season 3/4 or Firefly Season 1. You really saw the gap in depth of storytelling and character vs. Strange New Worlds (not the Strange New Worlds was bad, just that Orville was noticeably better).

I really hope they do a Season 4.

I don't think anything was "shoehorned in" with season 3 of The Orville. I would even suggest the political/societal aspects that were there had stemmed from the earlier two seasons anyway. I reckon the balance of humour and drama was perfect, and if Hulu doesn't pick it up for a 4th, surely someone else will.

i haven't watched it personally, was just going off description given/addressing a general trend. anyways, i still stand by the statement that a show being political doesn't necessarily make it smarter, and that people who think it does are usually reddit wankers, lol
