Anyone take or taken creatine?
« on: March 11, 2021, 01:42:39 pm »

I hit the gym pretty regularly and take either a whey protein supplement or vegetable based one after I'm done.  Years ago I had heard that creatine was unnecessary or potentially dangerous.  But, more and more I'm hearing the opposite.  Youtube personality and trainer Jeff Cavalier strongly recommends it, but he also sells an Athlean-X Creatine branded creatine supplement.  Watched the video above and I was just curious if anyone had their own personal experience with it.  And, is it readily available in Korea?

Easy to get off iHerb and pretty cheap.

I use ALLMAX monohydrate, costs about $15 and lasts me approximately 2-3 months.

Creatine is naturally found in a variety of foods such as fish, other meats and dairy so it seems kind of silly to suggest that it could be dangerous. I suppose if you take it in incredibly high amounts, yes, but what moron would do that?
I'm not super clued up on the science, but I do know that creatine works for me. Here's what I effects I've experienced:

- Faster muscle recovery, particularly after an intense lifting or sprinting session.
- Bit of a performance boost
- Putting on between 1-2kg of extra water weight at the peak of my cycle, I'll lose it after going off.

Generally, I'll take it throughout my off season, when I'm in the gym and gradually cycle off it when I start hitting the track and want to be as light as possible and prioritise speed.

Some take it year round and others, like myself, choose to cycle it and use it at intervals. Some say that it accelerates hair loss, but there's no definitive evidence to prove it, I haven't noticed any hair loss.

yeah ive taken it. i haven't noticed crazy benefits but i think when i was doing higher volume stuff it mightve helped with pumping out the last few reps. im taking a break from it now and doing lower volume stuff so i dont really have much to compare it to. anyway no side effects and its cheap. might as well see if it does anything for you

Thanks.  Sounds like it could be a benefit when lifting weights, although I'll have to research this hair loss angle more.  I've already got a nice thinning spot on my crown.  I don't need to speed that up.

I take it, I buy the powder, not the tablets and I mix it in with a protein shake or fruit juice.  I don't have any specific brand, usually the cheapest by weight from either iherb or coupang.

Like Aristocrat, I cycle on or off, I usually load it at the start of the cycle 20g a day for 5 days then take about 5g a day.

I'm cutting at the moment from a very dirty bulk and am not currently taking it.  I do find it helps with lifting a little more and a faster recovery.

I would say you must drink plenty of water when on it, and if you're a drinker I find hangovers much worse when I am on creatine than when I am not.

Yep, forgot to mention that one. You really not to make sure you're drinking plenty of water to get it to work properly, I'd typically make sure I'm drinking around 3lit a day or more when I'm on creatine.

holy shit, what a revelation! is this well documented? i was on creatine for a long time and noticed my hangovers were terrrrrrrible. at the time i just thought, "well gloob you're 25 and its all downhill from here." i'm cycled off it but i still haven't drank (those killer hangovers really put me off), so now i'm curious if it'll be much different...

It doesn't really blend well with my smoothies and that's basically the only way I'd take it, so I don't partake, and I honestly don't need it anyway.

But I'm coming in to drop a warning about taking too much of it, it will definitely give you the shits if you overdo it. Seen many a people have to drop their workout to rush off to the bathroom.

Can't say I've noticed.

Creatine isn't a pre-workout, you take it in the morning and at night (or post-workout) during the loading phase. Guys probably got the shits for same stupid myth they usually fall for, that you need to take 500g of whey the split second before training.

There are a lot of people who take creatine without actually reading about how to maximize both its intake and the results that you can get with it. Instead, they follow the creed that more is best. This can and does lead to bouts of diarrhea.

Age is definitely a factor, I'm the wrong side of 30 now and hangovers are brutal enough that I've cut my drinking down a lot.  However with Creatine the headaches are a whole new level.  I assume this is down to the diuretic factor of alcohol, but I am far from a medical health professional.
